Yeah Brodequin rules, I had no idea a new album was on the horizon.  Sounds a little more produced than their previous albums but I have no doubt the album will be one of the best of the year.

Convinced that skaters don’t like death metal for it to fall back this far.
Blood Incantation announced a new album. It’s two songs 30mins plus.
PeelingFlesh is working on a full album.
If anyone has heard this new project Torture, you’ve been graced with possibly the most brutal album start to finish.

ah man. really can't get into that Torture ablum. sorry.
its insane how long ago the last post in there was. but to be fair the whole music board isnt used that much here i guess.
i was thinking of posting here a fiew days ago tho

saw Slimelord and Cryptworm this week. Slimelord is a bit too, how to you say this, atmospheric maybe? like the songs are long as hell and theres not enought happening to keep me engaged in it personally. im sure theres a market for it.
Cryptworm are pretty sick. vocals are nice and nasty, remind me of Undergangs vocals. i like it.

hadnt been to a death metal show in ages. last time was when i saw Mortiferum and Kruelty over a year ago. had the chance to see Gatecreeper with Coffins and Belmadigula when i was in japan a while ago but ended up going to another show. did see some grindcore bands in japan.

theres some interesting tours coming along this year. so i might catch some more. still waiting for Ossuary's european tourdates. hope they play near me.

Every time someone brings up Torture all I can see is that quantum leap “I’m r-word” meme.

There's been a few albums lately that i dig but I feel like death metal has been kinda slow (outside of Brodequin and Spectral Voice albums).  I dig these though:

New Altar of Gore rules:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OMtyf-8lfQ

This dropped recently, ex-members of Cerebral Rot doing the same kinda thing.  Ripper:

People have been digging this... total death/goregrind with a stupid band name and dumb 'poop' related song titles.  Sounds pretty raw though

oh damn that Corpus Offal is sick.

found a sick band from france recenently but then quickly found out the guitarist plays in Destroyer 666 so that was pretty dissapointing. they sound so perfect tho..

slam is low iq and I love it. Also I personally love all the death metal bands flippin it to atmospheric, new agey music. It’s not new, morbid Angel and Death have always had chill songs thrown into gnarly albums.

Been on a Coffins kick lately....this is probably the best eyehategod cover I've ever heard. Absolutely does it justice.

The "spidery" font (and its many iterations (does this style have a name?)) that nearly every death metal band utilizes, and has slowly become a mainstay of contemporary youthful skate company branding, was created by musician Jeff Walker when he was a teenager.

He was a friend of Bill Steer, who played guitar on side 2 of Napalm Death's album, Scum. Jeff created the artwork for that record, as well as the Napalm Death and Earache Records logos. Jeff and Bill would soon go on to form the band Carcass.

So I would place the creation date of this font and design principle to around 1986 or 1987. Does anybody know of any earlier use of this type of lettering design?

... and then literally tens of thousands of others.

Some recent skate logos:

1987 has to be correct as it's the year of the first Earache release. Weirdly enough a record - The Accused's Return of Martha Splatterhead - that I had that was not released on Earache in the US. Apparently the logo is also intended as an homage to the Thrasher logo.

I was unaware that those early logos were by Jeff Walker. Carcass remains in the top tier. Even Swansong is better than it's reputation would have you believe.

I saw Tomb Mold and Horrendous in Cambridge, MA last week and it was quite good. My only criticism is that Horrendous just played their new album front start to finish with no encore of earlier stuff or anything, but it was my third time seeing them and it’s always a good time. Tomb Mold has shredding Ned Flanders (Derrick Vella) in short shorts and that dude has been killing it lately. The vocalist from Dream Unending joined them for a song.

Holy crud. I'm embarrassed to say I've never realized the Earache logo is a Thrasher ripoff. Now that I know it is so obvious!

one of my favorites from 2021 was this Necropsy Odor demo.  From San Luis Obispo of all places, from what I understand they are still playing shows so hopefully they got another release coming.  Absolute mayhem, perfect blend of goregrind/OSDM with lofi production that just murders.
