Skaters that were once generally dissed by Slap
« on: September 18, 2021, 06:19:16 PM »
Although there's way more examples of Slap going from loving to disliking pros (Kenny Anderson, Johan, Jarne, etc), who can you recall that "earned their props" on the forum over the years? Sheckler was the laughing stock of the boards for a while (the "Shecky-Poo era"), and it seemed like the forum all started liking him at the same time. Birdman's definetely fluctuated with Slap popularity over the years (the recent eyebrow-gate may have dropped him a bit of respect by some). Dylan also caught a lot of flack on the boards for fake style and clothing choices/modeling around the time his Gravis part dropped, but is a certified Slap favorite now. Raybourne in his 1031 era was definetely dissed too. Not that he was particularly hated, but the "Flip kids" in general were pretty commonly dissed and now Louie is a top-tier, respected pro. Anyone else come to mind?

Skaters who went from hated to liked on the Slap forum? Honestly I can't think of one. That would be a monumental achievement.

I remember a lot of folks were not psyched on Dylan and then he put out his incredible Gravis part and overnight he was everyone's favorite - and then we all started cuffing our pants. <3
Anyways, I think people gave Alex Olson a pretty hard time for a bit.

Sheckler although kooky in his reality show and Plan B bs flip debacle I genuinely like what he’s brought to the scene.

It’s like this there’s two camps when it comes to younger generation Sheckler/Huston much like Hawk/Hosoi of the 80’s.

If I were to choose between Huston or Sheckler I’d go with Sheckler all day then Nyjah.

I seem to recall the general consensus after that Vincent Nava Pig Wheels part going from “who’s this clown with the spikey hair?” to “this guy is fucking sick” within the span of a few days.

Might just be me projecting though.

Wasn’t there a massive terry Kennedy thread or something? Was it nuked? And didn’t he kill someone or something serious of that sort?

Tom K.

He went from 'Tool' to 'One Of Us'.

I think if more pros would acknowledge that they lurk on SLAP (or "the message boards") and enjoy the content and repartee, it would help humanize and make them relatable. I don't think it will completely negate other horrible deeds and wack style, and posting defensively on here can certainly backfire, but it was enough, in Tom's case, for us to reevaluate our collective opinion.

I don’t remember the love happening that quick. Nobody ever knocked his tricks, but he got shit on for yeeeeeears for his clothes and his arms while he rolled away. Maybe tbf it was a split between us fawning over Team Handsome and the other side calling for the 90s to return.

I’d say John Shanahan. Went from “who the fuck is this Kalis lite cosplayer?” to being pretty well loved around here. Especially in recent years.

Pretty sure I remember seeing some blatant hate on Corey Duffel in an old thread.

I’ve seen some recent comments lately of people showing respect to Borra. I’m not ready for that yet.

Slap’s opinion of Cory Kennedy went from “This is Mike Mo’s blatant Berrics kid replacement” to “This drunk asshole might be God” in the span of Obama’s 1st term.
