Bryan Herman and shoes
« on: April 29, 2021, 07:26:13 AM »
I swear I saw something about him starting something new (maybe under HRS, maybe something totally new) but can't seem to find anything about it now anywhere.  Anyone else remember this or am I just making that shit up?

And just so this thread isn't worthless I've added a Herman video.  His style will always be top 10 for me

There a lot of skaters I think look good but only a handful that have an extra special something when it comes to style. Call it smoothness, steeze, whatever. Herman is one of those dudes to me.

By the way, I am sorry. I haven’t heard of anything with him doing any shoe related shit outside of HRS.

I really like Herman, but I wish we saw him evolve into a more rounded skateboarder. Someone that talented shouldn't have had a 20 year career with such a limited trick selection.

He flipped into handrails, dominated picnic tables like no other, flipped his board down wilshire / holllywood high, handled some big rails, killed demos. Not to mention  some of the most stylish mannys captured. Reynolds and spanky talk about watching him "evolve" while filming baker 3 into a skater that had abilities that in some respects still haven't been touched on. He isn't someone that didn't meet his potential (evan hernandez) he surpassed his potential and is reaping the rewards of his hard work. Reynolds put him in the same category as penny.

Yeah. it's weird to claim the guy has a limited trick selection when he put out a part that was half picnic tables and half stairs. What else do we want him to do? Fewer nollie inward heelflips.

The last word I'd use to describe Herman's trick selection is "limited."

Herman is secretly street league good.

this dude does a ton of his tricks within 3-4 tries.

underrated when it comes to GOAT lists imo

Herman is both Reynolds and Mullens favorite skater so that’s really saying something.

I’ve only ever been someone’s favorite skater and I’m pretty sure that dudes in jail for meth.

Yeah, he’s one of those skaters like Reynolds who has his tricks he likes to do, but he really can do anything.

Apart from being one of the best skaters of all time my favorite part about Herman is that he made a ton of money off investments but didn’t pull a Mikey Taylor.

He’s still just a skate rat and doesn’t make Instagram videos in a golf cart reacting to financial advice for privileged white kids.

Herman's hardflip, nollie inward heel, nollie 360 flip

I really wouldn't have cared if that was all he had, he was top 3 if not the best at all of those tricks which is why I think the limited comment was made, because that's what sticks out.  But he did way more if you go back and revisit parts.  And all with the best style.  I know in my op I said he was top 10 for me but I really think it's top 5 when it comes to styles after rewatching a few of his parts this morning.

I disagree. He killed stairs, gaps, rails, picnic tables, manuals, all with impeccable style. Do you wish he got into wallies and ditch-to-wall-to-basic-grind crap like all the other aging pros these days?

To me this speaks to a quality of character. Money didn't change him.

Completely unrelated but a French rapper who also rips heavy on a board made a song named after him and it slaps

He's Penny tier for me.

That Stay Gold part is a beautiful thing of genius.
His manuals and style in general needs more respect.

i'm sure he's been told this, but he needs to negotiate getting the rights from Emerica to at least the G6 shoe design, he may have to use a different midsole. the way that thing cupped your foot felt so right. of course, the Herman 2 would be icing on the cake. a guy can dream, i guess.

Like 4:26 or so on in this video.  The back to back fs flip, switch fs flip that look almost like mirror images of each other is truly a sight to behold.  God tier flick.

Welp. I actually went back and watched all his parts, and I definitely stand corrected. His Baker 3 part was much more well rounded than I remember. Also some leeway for the nasty leg injury that he had, but I don't think anyone has used that as an excuse.
