updated my criteria for top ten songs and have a rough draft of my picks.

***
1. You must choose one song from each album (for the sake of convenience, you can just class the quality double 7” and flag burning as the “where quantity is job #1” CD if you like, so 8 albums in total. (HTCE, Quantity(and/ or IRBFB ), LTMR, TETA, PCL, SC, FS, VL)

2. You must choose at least one John K Samson track (Gifts, Anchorless, Showdown, letter or resignation), or at least one song where you can hear him audibly on backups I.e. the state lottery.)

3. You must choose at least one Todd song (duh).

4. One track from each release means you’ll cover The Beave and Sulynn eras.

5. You can only choose a maximum of 3 opening tracks.

6. You can only choose a maximum of 3 closing tracks

7. No more than 3 songs off of any one album.

8 You must include at least one deep cut (bonus/ demo/ live/ alternative track, a cover (either a cover they did or a propagandhi cover done by another band e.g. Nasum, the weakerthans), or a song not released on any of the 8 albums album listed above e.g. letter of resignation, homophobes are just pissed, oka everywhere acoustic etc.)

I think it's a bit more well-rounded and challenging now

Yeah, it was the open audition you could send in to the band,, sorry if it sounded like I meant that I auditioned with the band (that was not the case and im sorry if what I wrote sounded misleading), what I meant is I sent in the tracks they asked for (at least 2 out of the 3 or 4 and also 2 tracks I chose (rock for sustainable capitalism and sandor katze if I remember correctly)

For question #8

“Contest song” from “where quantity is Job 1.

And for the cover song? I gotta go with shai hulud‘a cover of “hate myth muscle etiquette” due to how awesome the guitar track is during the lyric verse breaks (the guitar part right after the lyrics “I/you need a good kick in the ass, even tough they play a couple of the notes wrong)

Bonus question #9

Favorite propagandhi cameo on another band’s album.

I’ll have to go with protest the hero’s song “sex tapes” where Chris Hannah sings a verse from 1:02 to 1:13

@JRF nerd status achieved! never heard that hate, myth, muscle, etiquette cover. hell, you hardly hear any HTCE covers in general, that's the only one I can think of!
I used to think the only person qualified to cover their songs was Jenn so I'll dedicate this one to you because I know you said this track was one of your faves off of PCL:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsKfJkpukYU
(she also does a great purina hall of fame cover)

Your bonus question is super hard, because there is only like 3 songs that exist right lol?
here's mine:

never thought I'd ever hear Chris sing about skateboarding, but I guess he could draw some similarities to hockey too?

Damn! That cover was fucking beautiful! And that’s the first time I’ve ever heard “antillectual” and that song was amazing, I had to look up the lyrics for that song and I gotta say that this lyrics are amazing and Chris Hannah singing on it was fucking amazing.. I saw propagandhi in the early to mid 90’s live and chris and Jord wore skateboarding t-shirts often, but they were always shirts from small (and sometimes long gone) skateboarding companies (I.E companies like “small room” and adrenaline) also, propagandhi sent out plenty of “cease and desist” orders on there songs being used in snow and skateboarding videos, my part with “showdown G.E.P” was never hit with a cease and desist, but I think that it’s more because it flew under the radar than the band approving of the song being used…

Another protest the hero song, the lyrics for the song are all about how propagandhi changed there lives, it’s basically a song of praise for propagandhi.. the lyrics are pretty awesome. I guess this could be another bonus question of “Bands writing song lyrics about propagandhi” but I think that’s an even shorter list and the only other  2 songs written about them by other bands are “nofx” single cell organism” (i think that’s the name) and lagwagon’s song “rifle”… but both of those song’s lyrics are about talking bad about Chris Hannah, so they’re not exactly good examples since they are ant-Chris Hannah songs…

Yeah that’s protest the hero’s version of the bangers embrace huh? (Confession time: I don’t really like protest the hero to be honest)
Good call on one-called organism, it’s not a bad song per se, but propagandhi and nofx were so over each other at that point it was kinda bound to happen, and Mike was hardly going to let them get away with rock for sustainable capitalism without a rebuttal. The Marxist brothers also references “eBay bidding on TETA on Soviet red vinyl” in the lyrics, but that’s not a direct diss track as far as I know!
Chris’ response on the old G7 podcast is kinda hilarious too!

I initially thought this big wig track was a jab at them, but it seems it was more like a jab at propgandhi fans who couldn’t understand or relate with their message(s), or at least I read that in an interview somewhere.

P.s. this is my rough draft (in chronological order)

Chronological order/ rough cut:

Showdown (HTCE, John Track)
Oka everywhere (IRBFB)
Nailing Descartes (LTMR)
Mate ka moris (TETA, opening track #1)
Speculative fiction (PCL, opening track #2)
Night letters (SC, Todd track #1, opening track #3)
Supporting Caste (SC)
Duplicate Keys Icaro (FS, closing track #1)
The days you hate yourself (FS, Todd track #2, deep cut)
Zoochosis (VL, closing track #2)

But it’s still a work in process … and I wanted to include note to self and rattan came somewhere

@cucktard where you at?

Edit: duplicate keys is a failed states track

That’s a proper list right there. Something I often think about is what if Todd played and sung John K propagandhi songs? I can only imagine what “anchorless” would sound like! Haha!

https://youtu.be/gSON7_q41Rc

Yeah man, I read interview with them talking about how it wasn’t intended to be a diss at propagandhi at all and how they played shows with them in the early days and were big fans and friends with the band. Later bigwig albums are straight fucking fire! This song is definitely in my top five favorite thrash metal/punk post hardcore songs ever written, such a fucking masterpiece!

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TpXcdMiPtao

Bigwig is another band that the lead singer is also the lead guitarist that can shred some. crazy fast guitar solos while singing. Got to see them play live back in ‘03, or ‘04 iirc, they were super fucking good live.

I’m not a huge protest the hero fan either, I like the album “fortress” and respect the fact that the guitarists are ridiculously talented. And they both Thor guitarists did write all the propagandhi guitar tablature books, but I’m not a big fan of the majority of their music, I like some of it, but not that much of it..

That song “owned and operated” is fucking super fucking hard to play on the guitar “the picking rhythm” during the chorus parts of the song (disarm, and put away your pride, one patriotic ego yet we struggle to survive) is so tight and has so much groove to it, and really fucking hard to play correctly too..

but...

the longer/ louder intro on that is divine! “Lick my bag” hahahaha

and since you mentioned different members singing different songs:

Chris singing a Todd track is a nice switch up!

@cucktard messaged me yesterday but a vinyl reissue of supporting caste is coming out and I’ve already copped a pre-order:

Also, have a recent interview with them in a Japanese hardcore zine and they talk a lot about having a tonne of new songs and an album in the works!!!

So I’m needing out with some people online at the moment and think I may have finally done a draft for my top 10 tracks (based on my silly criteria):

1. ‘Oka everywhere’ (IRBFB)
2. ‘Supporting Caste’ (SC)
3. ‘Showdown’ (HTCE, John track)
4. ‘Mate ka moris’ (TETA, opening track #1)
5. ‘Speculative fiction’ (PCL, opening track #2)
6. ‘Night letters’ (SC #2, Todd track, opening track #3)
7. ‘Nailing Descartes’ (LTMR)
8. ‘Rattan Cane’ (FS, Todd track #2)
9. ‘Adventures in Zoochosis’ (VL, closing track #1)
10. Duplicate Keys Icaro’ (FS #2, closing track #2)

Deep cut(s):
1. ‘Mutual Friends’ (IRBFB #2): live version from ‘Yep’ Cassette
3. ‘Letter of Resignation’ (John track, FYP Split 7”)
3. ‘Days you hate yourself’ (bonus (Todd #3) track from FS)

Honorable mentions: Negredo (VL, Todd track #4), Note to Self (FS, but I had too many openers already, Victory Lap (VL, again, too many openers)

What will I do with rock for sustainable capitalism though?
I can’t swap it for speculative fiction, so I’m kinda back to the drawing board… @JRF you still around?

Yeah, I’m around I just posted me playing a quick and sloppy “head, chest or foot/anti-manifesto/hate myth muscle etiquette” on guitar, a couple posts down in this thread, im setting up a new 8 string fanned fret baritone guitar that I just purchased for a smoking good deal. After I set up my new practice amp set up and the new 8 string I was gonna try and do another how to clean everything medley with “stick the flag”/“showdown/G.E.P/fuck machine short but downtimes on the 8 string (or if it sounds shitty down tuned I’ll play. It in standard. I might do a short less talk more rock medley too but that album is really basic to play so it really dosent sound too impressive or difficult to play but it might sound decent, hopefully the instagram link to the first medley I posted shows up in the link I posted.hopefully I can put together some ok propagandhi guitar medleys. Less talk and HTCE a lot easier to play the. I can try and throw in some Potemkin and supporting caste song but I never took the time to really learn many songs off any of the Albums after todays empire’s. But I can play “theflensing of sandor katze of supporting caste if I can find my guitar capo, it’s been a while since a played it but I’m sure I can figure out again, it’s a fun song to sing and play to and probably the easiest next to “less talk more rock” track and showdown

HTCE turned 30 today!
(Fuck I’m old)

Chris Hannah’s play through review of HTCE was pretty hilarious!

and sorta predictable, anyway we all know he hates it so wouldn’t expect much less. They started playing nation states again so maybe we might get some anti-manifesto too at future gigs?

I’d love to hear them play “hate myth muscle etiquette” but they never played it live before so it’s not gonna happen, they have been playing “homophobes are pissed cuz they can’t get laid” though which is pretty sick!

Yeah, hate myth is a no brainer but it never was in their sets much even in the early days. When I first saw them play in Australia with Todd they played showdown minus John’s part and also the fuck the border demo version.
I honestly be happy to just hear them play any songs these days, but really want to see note to self and supporting caste live … oh and night letters!

Impish sausage is definitely gonna blow up as a euphemism this year
