I wished they talked a little bit about the history and bust factor. Maybe it would’ve seemed a little bit too close to the QS “favorite spots” series.  Then again Jenkem has done spot history pieces as well.

The island is accessible by bridge from queens and  Manhattan, along with a gondola. The majority of the island is residential, some businesses, Uni buildings, and accessible at any time. This spot is a city park at one end of the island with gates and limited hours. Kinda lame actually that it’s not just accessible anytime like the majority of larger NYC parks.

My mom lived on rooosevelt island for a year or so, walked thru that park one day and it felt like it was open to the public most of the time but maybe the pandemic made it close more often?

it's definitely not a fortress, they are being a little dramatic about that, you can take a tram or a ferry boat over to it and tour the whole island. the place is a tourist destination but there are people that live there. the bank spot they skated is a SUPER bust as soon as you throw your board down anywhere over there security comes out the wood work

yeah they could have been more clear. Roosevelt Island as a whole is just a (kinda weird) part of nyc where people live. They're specifically trying to skate a spot at "Four Freedoms Park", which was only opened about a decade ago, is kinda a pristine and well maintained place designed by a star architect and isn't even open 7 days a week.

Definitely has some weird vibes. I can't quite pin what it is, but I remember checking it out one day for skate spots and felt a sort of unnerving/uncanny energy the entire time I was there. It's just so quiet and doesn't have the hustle and bustle that you get with the rest of the city.
