Krooked Ray Barbee Flames
« on: June 10, 2021, 03:46:37 AM »
Apologies in advance for the very specific question/topic. Has anyone skated the Krooked Ray Barbee Flames deck, and what did you think of it? It looks like a beast with the 15.75 wheelbase and trying to see if it’s designed by Gonz as wall art, or it’s skate able.

I have not skated one as the WB is longer than I usually skate, but I think it's all personal preference.

Some examples of setups I've seen on IG.

Enjoy your life.

Seeing the board without graphic (top side pic) makes it a bit easier to look at the shape and note where the bolt holes are.

At 10 x 32 with 15.75 wheelbase, it is big, but the best thing with those dimensions means it is not super long and if you are not a fan of the longer wheelbase, it is pretty easy to redrill it back at 15.0 even or less and still have a reasonable board that doesn't have a stupidly long nose.

Consider most boards are around 32 with a 14.25 to 14.5 wheelbase, so although it might shorten it too much for the concave of the nose down that far, at least it would me more maneuverable by shortening the wheelbase a bit, eg maybe 14.75 would be a sweet spot for most.

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Yeah it is a beast. I messaged the chap whose pic on the wide boiz insta page is first, so thanks for the lead on that. He runs a skate shop in Newport Wales. He is using it as his vert board, but suggested it was a bit of an experiment. He would normally have gone for a Welcome Chris Miller, but thought why not go for the big lad…. a brave move to experiment with vert but you know “one life, no fear”.

Some of the vert guys I know love their big boards with long wheelbases, so that is about medium sized for them, to give a fair comparison.

It’s sick, grip it and rip it. Life’s too short to worry about wheelbase length. Ray Barbee is infallible, trust.
A short board with a long wheelbase is fun. My wife went to a skate shop and told them I wanted an old school pool board for my birthday and they sold her a Schmitt Stix ripsaw with 15.5” WB, almost no nose and 30” long. I would never seek out something with those dimensions but that board was fun as hell in bowls and cruising around on banks.

and you can always make the “my board has no nose”, “how does it smell?” Joke #dadjoke

I got one as a Christmas complete with 215s because it’s the cheaper/attainable alternative to real gonz decks.

I also love Ray.
I have a lot of setups and this is all I skated for 7months.

Recently I set up a new board with a 14.75 wheelbase on older 169s and landed all my tricks first try at the local park and some tricks I haven’t done in years. So there was no time wasted, I definitely feel like my legs are weirdly stronger.

It’s really fun, I went back to it. Had a great session on a bank to parking block that slightly reminds me of the small banks I just found. Feels like it’s my board. Might need to buy another.
