Sounds like you need to get your weight more over the nose so you're stable on the ledge.Also I'm no pro at popping out but I like to think of it more like a chinese nollie, scooping/popping forward instead of out and dragging my back foot.
To pop out of a crooked grind you just have to do a crisp horizontal nollie motion. That's it.Noseslide you gotta let your tail sag a tiny bit and then nollie.

practice just putting your board up on the ledge and ollieing out switch
