Favorite 'non-trick' trick
« on: June 14, 2021, 09:13:28 AM »
What quirky little moves do you like to do mid-line or while cruising? Chinese ollie? Behind the board push? Manhole ollie to manual?

I love switch 180 power slides (frontside). Feels so satisfying. And I'm always on the lookout for good cracks in the sidewalk to bounce off.

I am not sure if it is still allowed to call them chinese ollies, but they are great and can also turn into a real trick with the right obstacle.

What's that move called, where you screech to the side only with your back truck? I love that.

You are likely right about that. I'm open to whatever its been renamed.

Yeah, also know what you mean with that little sideways scrub. TG special (not really called that but I think of Tommy Guerrero when I do them)

Like doing those bs nose wheelie powerslides. Also a shifty tail scrape Ollie thing over a manhole cover or something

Love this thread. Here are a few:

The aforementioned nose wheelie power slide is sick

The trick where you "nollie" up/over something (curb, parking block, etc) by using the the nose to pop up. (Does that make sense? I think they're called "noseblock/bonk"? Someone is probably way better at explaining this)

Powerslide/speed-checks are fulfilling

No-comply revert

Tails scrape/nose grab with speed are a drunken go-to

Also:

What's that move called, where you screech to the side only with your back truck? I love that.

Yea man, instant memories.

Flip flop and it’s variations

That thing where you pop the board up no hands and balance it upright on top of your foot

When your tail is in front backside revert then jump back the way you came while minimally moving your torso so the nose is going forward

Little weightless nollies into banks and I'd love figure out how to do KA's (I know...) cab-bs-powerslide-to-forward in Pretty Sweet.

Not sure what to call it... A back 180 pivot? revert? When you're riding forward and you do a back 180 but your back wheels stay on the ground. Very fun

One-footed reverts, where I take my back foot off and kick it out while turning frontside with my front foot. It's a fun, dumb thing to do, especially in SKATE where kids don't know what's what.

nollie front 180 "powerslide/revert" to get from regs to switch

same with the back 180 reverts

I like no comply front shuvs when you're waiting for your turn to go and just standing there with one foot on the ground and one foot on the board. You can just do front shuvs over and over and over again

also when skating parks going up banks and popping the board right up into your hand as you reach the apex

Running really fast and throwing down feels so good too

I think all this small stuff is why I love skating so much, nothing compares to it.

Hitting your back wheel/truck on those reflective fuckers in the middle of the street

Early grabbing and putting your other hand down when you drop off stuff

mannying the blind people bumps at crosswalks

Mannying curb cut tables or if youre mobbing no pop hit it like a kicker and try clearing it

-I always loved that push behind the board, is that called Jazz push? Can anyone confirm?

-when after landing a trick, people kinda "nollie" down the curb, but without even popping.

In a down hill those quick tail hits on the ground, not popping either, sound and look pretty good (omar salazar comes to my mind.

There’s a spot near my house with speed bumps on a pretty steep little hill. Blasting off those speed bumps is great (the aforementioned used to be called Chinese ollies. We need a new name for that shit).

Fake nollying off curbs/into banks is as awesome as everyone else seems to think too.

BS powerslides (is that an Oster slide) are sick too, but I’ve actually managed some amazing slams doing that shit.

The fakie Chinese/crack/bump ollie is a favorite of mine, I like to pivot around like a half cab with them too.

Kind of a trick hut not really, but I love doing fs no comply wallrides on anything and everything. Just plant the lead foot, send er up the wall and jump back on when the board magically levels out.

Early grab everything. Early grabs down a euro gap, into back 5050 on curbs, early grab 180's off things or on flat. Partly because they're fun and low risk, partly because they annoy the shit out of one of my "cool" younger skate buddies.
If you see offensive comments, just let it go into one eye and let it out of the other eye, no tears and not sadness or anger.

on my last ny trip i was trying ride on fs 5050 skating  from place to place cause i love the metal curbs.

i’m glad slap can still have threads that remind us skating is fun instead of filled with pederasty, casual racism/sexism and dudes with stupid nicknames
