I'm working in Tokyo this week and I'm going to New Japan Best of Super Juniors tonight and Sunday. I'm so fucking stoked.  to see Okada and Ishii.

That’s so awesome!    I was really hoping to see some wrestling in international settings before the thing I was working on got the plug pulled on it the week before I was supposed to go to WM.   At least I got to go to a few tv taping and a PPV event.

Isn’t Connors shaping up to be the next big thing or is that a different LA dojo guy?

PS dark side of the ring starts this week and apparently a Pal who doesn’t post much produced the Candido ep.   I’ve told them to post in here, but I think they’re more in lurk mode these days as many graduate to doing

Did just watch Cole vs Gargano in NXT & I have developed some respect for Cole. But AEW Cole…..

Also, @Atiba Applebum even if MJF is writing them, it’s not good.

Hah it’s valid to not like it - I just meant MJF probably isn’t checked out since it’s his doing

Does anyone watch the Fed regularly?   Curious why LA Knight is such hot shit all of a sudden.   Don’t remember him moving the needle much in NXT

I got there towards the end of that first match so I missed Clark Connors but I think you are correct. Fujita got the pin on Gedo on that one.

I'll be posting a bunch of videos to my insta story in a lil bit @bodychrons

Mike Bailey and Master Wato fucking killed it.

I do. He’s been getting a push from the fans. He’s solid on the microphone & is solid in the ring. His finisher Blunt Force Trauma is a better stunner too. Ever since he left Maximum Male Models, people love it. Honestly, he can be a big guy with his “smart ass” attitude & look. Dare I say he has potential to be on Stone Cold’s level? He honestly reminds of Steve Austin breaking in the “Stone Cold” persona.

Asuka beats Belair!

Rollins is the new Heavyweight champ (predictable but a good thing; makes too much sense)

Gunther retains

Lesnar beats Rhodes

Body type wise he always reminds me of a mid card late 80s Fed guy.  Almost want to photoshop a mullet on him to see bc he kinda has that steroid belly.   I saw him in some clip from NWA where he botched a line and played it off with the fans that made me see the charisma.

NXT Battleground for the win. Great showing thus far.

Dragunov VS Dijak was one hell of a match. Back & forth beatings & really playing into Dragunov’s lust for brutality. Never saw Dijak perform in ring & enjoyed. His character is a perfect mix between Big Boss Man & Steve Blackman. Dragunov with the perfect win. Also, Dragon Lee took a wild spill on a botched hurricarana attempt on the ring apron.

Card looks good, hyped you get to see the Stone Pitbull. BOSJ semis sounds nuts.

This is the first maybe second aew ppv I haven't bought. Did a bunch of yard work and napped through the start of the show. Missed the jericho match heard the ending was dumb and it might be why the crowd is kinda shit

I enjoyed him on NXT, and as has been said, once he left MMM and went back to the LA Knight gimmick, he has been killing it every week. One of the best in WWE on the mic in a long time, in my opinion. Has the crowd in the palm of his hands most of the time

Great 4 way match, I popped huge for the mentors finisher spot, and the ending was well done too

Woof saw some of the Wardlow Christian highlights and those were some brutal spots that Christian had to take (and Wardlow executed nicely)

Glad Statlander came back and finally did the thing.   Feel bad she got injured so much because she could have been the pre-Hayter

YES! That was terrifying. Melo also missed a couple kicks & honestly looked a tad off. I guess that’s since Bron has been getting him each week.

Match of the payperview goes to Dragunov. Easily the best one of the night.

YEAH!

It was flat as a 2x4 so I assumed Powell. When they did the Elvis skit he holds it up sideways for a second and there's zero nose or concave to be seen. It kinda looked like he almost ate shit dropping in on his entrance too haha.

I haven't been watching for a while so I wasn't really invested emotionally and it was the worst AEW ppv I've seen so far. Not sure if it was how they mic'ed it or my new TV or what but the crowd sounded dead most of the night and the card was pretty weak to begin with.

Surprisingly my highlight of the night was Statlander. There's a loud contingent of people complaining about how there was no storyline.. Did they miss the build they were doing before she got hurt? Like I know it was delayed by 9 mos but they basically just unpaused that storyline and finished it. I went nuts when she came out and their little match was enough to get me excited for a feud. The rematch should be the female equivalent of a beef battle.Taya looked better than I expected too.

Still sick of FTR but I enjoyed the TNA guys and Mark Briscoe. It's a little silly but they're dedicated to the schtick and I'll go to my grave saying that more people need to acknowledge how good Lethal is.

The casino battle royales always just remind me of how much unused talent is on the roster. Penta vs Big Bill was sick though. I'd pay to see that match.

Cole and Jericho was pretty terrible but seeing sabu do the old man belly flop through a table got a pop out of me.

House of Black match was good. Brody King is one of my favorite workers at the moment. Everything looks brutal.

4 way match was no bueno for me. It was paint by numbers Indy spots one after another and not even MJF could rescue it, though his timing and chicken shit heel work was great as usual.

The rest of it ranged from meh to wtf (Arnibal Lecter) to insufferable for me. I turned the main event off after 5 minutes of that awful wild thing cover from the dude in the blackface mask. Literally couldn't take it anymore and didn't bother finishing the ppv.

I don’t know if it was the placement of the announce table or what but the commentary definitely took a dive on Double or Nothing. I’m still an AEW mark and enjoyed the PPV overall but I do think a lot of it is I’m rooting for them more than blown away by them. Sometimes it’s ok to see the cracks in things but it feels more and more like late WCW bloat and chaos.

Also just wanted to echo the sentiment that LA Knight looks like an 80s wrestler and talks like an Attitude Era wrestler. Love that dude. Glad the Max Dupri bit got the axe.

Spot on, especially with the WCW chaos. It's sort of sad as the chaos came really quick for AEW as opposed to WCW....

But the big difference between them and late WCW is AEW is improving business-wise.   The brand split will help, but they really need to get their PPVs on MAX the way Peacock is showing all of the Feds.

Connors is their desperate attempt to make the next Kenny/Jay White (I think they even put him in bullet club) but he's been distinctly average every time I've watched him and he just looks weird to me. Part of it is the male stripper look but he also has one of those faces that I think will hold him back from ever being a star. Paul Roma and Mike Rotunda are other famous sufferers of jobber-face.

Granted maybe he's gotten much better in the last few months but I have yet to see anything hype worthy from that dude.

I think the fine folks at the NJPW office just think it means "gaijin money" but don't really understand why it was cool in the first place. It's kinda like when WCW tried to make Hennig a Horseman...they just have no original ideas for the kid I guess. Either that or they're just trying to milk every last drop out of the merch but I feel like they should preserve what little legacy remains for the inevitable nostalgia run.

Pat I'm gonna watch those matches when I get a chance. A while back I downloaded a pack of Paul Boesch stuff and it includes some very early tape of the blade runners in the UWF. I believe the story is that Hellwig didn't like the south so he left pretty quick and Eddie Gilbert and Sting became a team. Most of the matches are Sting and Gilbert but there's some stuff with Warrior. Anyways the matches have no commentary but there is live sound and the house is hot. It's pretty fun to watch and Sting was insanely huge at that point. Like one of those cows that has the mutant muscle gene. I think he might have even been bigger than Hellwig. He's so swollen he looks like he's got one of the fans from Bayley's tube people inflating him. It's so weird to watch it and think "this guy is going to have a 40+ year career and go down as one of the greatest and most respected wrestlers in history."

I gotta say the AEW game is looking pretty awesome. I really hope they put it on gamepass at some point but I'll probably buy it anyways. WCW/NWO Revenge and later No Mercy were some of my most played games of all time and honestly probably some of the most impactful. Those old AKI games were the first time I had a true "I can do anything I want" experience with a video game. My buddy isn't even a wrestling fan anymore but he's pumped to play it just because those games were so important to us growing up.

Anyone have good suggestions for jobbers going into business for themselves.   I’m talking like Danny Puder or that Blackwell guy who refused to job to Sid Vicious and Dan Spivey.   Appreciated!

Inoki and the Great Antonio is one of the most famous and brutal ones. I feel kinda weird watching it now because I looked up some stuff on Great Antonio and I guess he had a super traumatic childhood (he wouldn't talk about it but he was like a child refugee from ww2) and might have been actually not all there. I don't know if he ever wrestled again after Inoki beat his ass.

There's Mike Bell and Saturn but that wasn't so much him going into business for himself as being a little sloppy and Saturn losing his shit about it. He claims he was concussed and doesn't remember it but I feel like roid rage and Saturns appetite for stimulants is a better bet for what happened there.

I feel like there's 2 or 3 more on the tip of my tongue but I can't think of them right now. I'll keep thinking about it.

Haha right I forgot about that inoki one.

That Saturn one is the reason he got the Moppy gimmick!

First 2 Forbidden Door Matches announced:

Omega vs Osprey round 2
Danielson vs Okada

I think that sells the whole thing right there!
