I like the skating but someone pointed out how out of control the arms are in this part and now it’s all i see

I think the worst part is that the song name drops him

Aww mannn. I feel like being baited.
Personal preferences aside there are some quality tricks in here and this part meant a hell of a lot to me growing up.

There’s only one authorized user of Iggy Pop’s Search and Destroy in skateboarding.

Totally disagree.
They were able to get the rights to an great song that fit the way the part was made from the skating to the editing. Yeah the songs been used but it works so well - in both parts.

Anyway, I love this part overall, like his Blackout part but better ya.

I don’t think too many board companies were actually securing rights to songs back then. I could be wrong, but I definitely know Tum Yeto couldn’t afford song rights.

Ryan Decenzo. Might've got better now but I remember a part of his a few years back where he was just dropping these insane hammers but just couldn't push for shit

wait that part from 2014? if that’s the one you’re talking about then i agree 100% that his push was absolute ass. come to think of it i don’t remember seeing much pushing from his most recent one, but then again there’s not much of it that i remember and i was even stoked on it

I was in a bar during this era, and drunkenly slurred to the girl sitting next to me "that's Jason Dill!" and she glanced briefly over at him and just said "gross."

Lyrics 100% on point.

Get Familiar was just before this as well. This era was my most confident post ACL surgery. Although my filiming got cut short a year before this came out due to spiral fractured humorous bone. The last 50-50 I did I went back to the same rail a few months later and tried to 50 and ollie over the sidewalk and into the street and well it didn't end good. It was basically the beginning of the end of my skateboard career as a pro.
Was stoked on the Frampton song for sure.

Forgot about Get Familiar, came out the same time as a Transworld interview as well.

Thanks for keeping the arm steeze authentic.

Heath and Jeremy in Birdhouse’s the end was disappointing to say the least. I remember when it came out I couldn’t understand why anyone would want to watch a part of mainly launch ramps and 50-50 grinds on high up shit. I guess a lipslide down el toro and driving a van over little trees is cool? That whole video is pretty unwatchable and boring.

This is that part for me, just everything about it

The problematic stereotyping

The concept

That song LOL

what the hell were they thinking, just wildly inappropriate and off brand

I suck too but the only reason Sinner has a career is because “Sinner” is a badass nickname

I actually find it to be fucking stupid.

The Black Labels videos work(ed) when viewed as a whole I think. I remember at the time I had some friends who briefly got back into skating after leaving it in their teens mostly to do band stuff and they were not looking to really dissect tricks. More just have a tallcan and enjoy the soundtrack and skating was in a way secondary or at least equal to the tunes. Like, Jub doing an acid-drop or whatever to S.O.D was more than fine for them.

Seeing the parts now on YouTube can highlight where they fall short. Also the use of black and white and some other effects looks bad now. I respect that JL was clearly going for 'vibe' though.

I think the Mike V part is something you can do when you have some goodwill in the bank if you get me but at the time its not like he had a ton of footage. It was poorly timed I think. Like, if it had come recently after a well-received part people would 'get' it. As someone mentioned before, the ollie is huge though. Skating to Rollins Band also is so on-the-nose that it's cringe.

Having said all that, is there an official name for the trick he does where he kicks the board away and catches up to it and jumps back on? The only time I've heard someone else mention that trick they basically just call it what I just did. I actually think it's a pretty stylish flatground trick when done perfectly.
