I figured it's easier to post in this thread then create an entire new one. I'm also filming on the AX700 with the MK1 currently and like the camera setup, but having some difficulties when it comes to workflow process for editing.
I'm still using Mac OS El Capitan so I can run FCP7 and starting to have issues with how old the software is I think. I can use Log/Transfer in FCP7 with the HVX and edit fine in DVCPRO codec, but for some reason cannot get the AX700 files or hard drive to work in the Log and Transfer window within final cut.
I've tried work arounds like MPEG Streamclip and a few other third party programs I found online, but nothing seems to work for setting In/Out markers on clips. I can't even edit the raw MPEG4 file from the AX700 drive straight out of the camera in FCP7, and it doesn't open in Compressor either. I have to do a Right Click > Encode to ProRes422 currently to get it to allow for editing at all in FCP7, which leaves a lot of unnecessary footage on the clip and taking up hard drive space. Is there a Sony import software I'm missing or something, because I did not seem to have luck with their studio I tried online also?
I'm basically getting the same results with GoPro footage also, but quicktime cannot even play GoPro files now.
Anyone else out there still on FCP7 and using an AX700 let me know if there is a secret to the workflow. For everyone else, how is the log an transfer process when using Premiere or DaVinci on the AX700? Do you convert the footage Codec before editing?
I really don't want to update the OS or buy a new computer with a new OS and keep this as the legacy unit. Wondering if anyone has any special recommendations on workflow with this camera.
Thanks.
