my friend has been skating the new ones for about two weeks now. he really likes them and was skating mostly ventures and sometimes indys prior to the lurpivs. they feel great riding around, did some basics tricks, seemed to pinch nice, grind well and all round feels solid.

dont have any desire to stop skating venture cast hollows though so didnt really do a deep dive analysis lol. i imagine if you're coming from indys or aces and dont mind the height you're gonna like em

the lurpivs….im a truck maniac. a glutton. of course i want to try them, especially the hollows. i like the ridiculous look, the t-hanger. a super tall truck doesn’t sound like what i’ve thought i’ve always needed, maybe that’s the appeal, kinda freaky.

I always see this dudes clips, and this clip makes me want to try the trucks. I actually like the slim hanger. I think the transtion from venture low to these shouldn't be so hard considering my skill, or lack of thereof.  I wish i could manual though.

sounds plausible. all i know, when it comes to setups, is that i can temporarily convince myself of just about anything, and that i am also frequently incorrect about what i think will work best.
some examples: i’ve always favored smaller setups, my best sessions ever were on those, but now, i do much better on bigger boards. i used to think i needed short boards, and short wb’s, and that isn’t true. i have generally skated 52s, but lately do best on monster truck tires. aces worked best for on short wb’s. etc etc on and on.






so really what i’m saying is i should buy some lurpivs.

First impressions : they feel incredible. Ive skated Aces for years and these have won my heart so far. They were pretty rough to grind at first but they wore in once they were scratched up a bit.


The turn is very deep and similar to Ace Classics, but with added stability that I would compare to an Indy. They’re very very hard to wheelbite, to the point where it actually took some adjustment for pinching crooks and pivots on quarters. Bushings are great so far, they return to centre and don’t look like they’ll bulge out.


I don’t really have anything bad to say about them at all, I know people will hate how they look but personally I think they look great - they’re almost so ugly and different that you just have to love them.

unfortunately Ace amplifies everything I dislike about Indy mostly that they are even squirrelier without it providing any advantage, their pinch is worse, and they still have corny branding. I kinda like that this go round of Lurpiv has a bit more of a brand image and it seems that they solve some of the problems that Indys (as the base truck being iterated upon) while building a net new truck not just iterating on an old Indy.

I wish Slappy had put the same effort into their brand vision and name.

Exactly the reason I love ace Slappy...then add in the best grind and grind clearance. Shame their top bushing/washer situation is dogshit tho...I mean, who the fuck tested these and DIDN'T see that shit happen?

Agree with all of what you posted, however, ACE and Indy, can be tamed with the right bushings (it's a TRAP!); Slappy too. Hell just putting stock ACE mediums (classic bushings mind) into [anything really that comes stock with a bottom barrel] Indys is a massive improvement.

It does look like sinclair just took the easy way out...but he didn't. He led with a branding that targeted a specific segment in hopes of stealing mindshare [away from mostly ACE - and indy - curb heads) can't say *I* think it worked but shits still selling, I see lots of people on them and they keep putting out new shit (lows dropping in the fall). I'm still fan as they really do 'thunderize' an Indy, essentially fixing what you say you don't like about this 'camp's' style of turn.

ACE branding isn't bad persay, 'Pilots' and the whole classic race car-vibe is a good take (better than fuck the rest).

I still dig the look of Lurpiv, but as it is, they don't offer me anything I can't get at a truck height I prefer (~53 or under) and I don't ride wheels over 54mm to justify going taller/standard.

Both worked great, but even then you can't change the way an Ace hanger arcs (not sure if this is the term) and they still pinch the worst. But then you're not saving lives! To be fair they kinda moved past this branding and its leagues better than Indy. The funny part is Indy could have zero slogans other than "we are the standard" and people would likely find that more agreeable, tasteful, and less corny.

I've found that with Indys I dislike the forged/lighter versions so this height sounds great since it's lighter, but still Indy dimensions otherwise. Curious to see how they ride.

I know this is mega childish, but Sinclair just botched the name and he coulda probably done a bit more marketed rollout. I'm sure they're quality trucks and people seem happy with them aside from the Zumiez thing, which doesn't seem like a big deal in retrospect. There's so many options that I only try new brands if I'm really psyched on them and I do really like the Lurpiv aesthetic and the V1s I tried. Otherwise I will just keep migrating around. I'm sure at some point I'll try a set.

Yeah, you can't change the geo, only accomodate it based on weight/desired tightness. That said, I think Indy, with a dual duro CONICAL bottom, is a real gamechanger for that brand.  Slappy 'fixed' my issues with Indy/Ace from a 'street skating' only POV, i.e, they gave me that similiar turn feel but without the wheelbitey/unstable nature of the geo; I'd still much rather have Indy or ACE in a bowl.

Oddly, I setup stock indys recently and didn't hate it other than the weight. Sweet jeazus even a forged 144 ti is chunky.

i tried 3 tricks on my buddies setup, and of course they were easier, which i hate. if it was my setup i wouldn’t like it. he had 144 hollow indy’s and they felt good. the pop felt easy, i didn’t notice the weight at all. my board has huge heavy wheels, so everyone else’s feels chill. indy’s are always good for me for 1-2 sessions and then i go back to hating them. it’s a me issue.
i don’t skate with anyone, and certainly not anyone that’s involved enough to have lurpivs.

Ended up picking up a pair while in Toronto for the Bunt Jam. They appear well made and I'm looking forward to trying them out. Coming from forged thunders with 1/8" risers.

My 145 hollows weigh 340.5g and extend the wb +3.0625". I set them up flush with the kingpin, will report back how they feel after giving them a shot to break in.
