Yuma, AZ
« on: October 11, 2021, 09:47:27 PM »
Gotta go to Yuma for 20 days for work. Anything worth skating there? I’m probably going to drive out to lake havasu one weekend to skate that park.

Also interested in food, bars, etc if anyone has recommendations

Grew up there and actually might pay the folks a visit while you’re down there.

I’ll drop a detailed post for ya when I’m free after work today. Town sucks but there’s a few gems here and there.

DIY is still there but they 86’d almost everything except for these huge block ledges which are super fucking fun to skate.

Are you trying to street skate or more into just cruising parks? There’s one skatepark in Yuma and it’s a certified piece of suck but 2.0 version meaning it’s so bad it’s kinda fun. Lights stay on till like 11, too.
There’s two fun parks about a 40 minute drive away in El Centro and Brawley. Diego Najera’s hometown parks. There’s a couple ditches that are pretty fun as well. If you want photos/directions PM me and I’ll shoot you my number to make this easier. Same goes to anyone here if you’re cruising by.

As far as food goes there’s plenty of great Mexican food. Yuma’s like 15-20 minutes from Mexico so there’s plenty of authentic restaurants. 8th street is pretty sketchy but has good taco trucks. Chile Pepper/Mr. G’s Mexican food is everyone’s go-to if you don’t feel like hitting taco-trucks. Hit up Jector’s for the best breakfast burritos. Lute’s casino has great food also and my ex girlfriend probably still works there I don’t know she broke my heart it’s chill.

Yuma’s downtown area is literally just two blocks with a handful of bars. Red’s birdcage is mellow and divey if you’re into that vibe. Redmoon is a video game bar that a good buddy of mine owns. You can probably score coke at The Kress. Drugs are bad. Like I said - a handful of bars so you can hop the entire downtown district in one night.

You’re also a 2.5 hour drive from Phoenix/Tempe which has like 20 skateparks in the valley.

Thanks for the reply! Didn’t realize El Centro was that close, my buddy told me about that park today. I skate mostly transition, but definitely interested in cruising some ditches.

I appreciate the bar and food recommendations!

El Centro has a fun park, it’s about 50 minutes west of Yuma. Highlight of my trip was driving to skate the Lake Havasu park. It’s about a 2.5 hour drive but totally worth it. The drive was sick too, lots of cool shit to look at.

Yeah I hit el centro today, probably going to make that the regular thing while I’m here. I live in SD which is 2.5 hours away so if I’m gonna drive that far I’m just gonna go home lol was hoping to skate something that isn’t that landfill of a skatepark

yoo I live in Calexico/ Mexicali ! it's a 15 min. drive drive south of El Centro, or a 50 min drive west of Yuma. PM me for fun! There's nothing in Calexico but I'll host you around Mexicali if you're inclined for some Mexican action ;)
skatepark wise you'll find nothing better than Sidewinder around here. Hmu to schedule some skating

I just want everyone to know that I'm only 32.8% skateboarder, and that's on a good day. The rest is just soy and cum.

have fun! too bad I work weekdays 8-3. if you're into records there's Discordia records around the block of sidewinder. the owner derrick is a cool dude. also the owner of Mexca brewery and Strangers bar is a local legend and og skater, both places are down the street as well and pretty neat. you'll find all this on ig
