Latin music
« on: October 22, 2021, 01:00:54 AM »
anybody into musica con sabor around here?
I love different styles, but above all I'm a big fan of La Fania era salsa: Hector Lavoe, Orchestra Harlow, Barretto, Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz, Joe Bataan, Bobby Valentin, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades etc etc....

Just 2 little gems to start things off....post what you're into!

If you have the time check out Ya no estoy aqui on netflix. Its about the symbiosis of Colombian artists getting their tracks mixed in Monterey and Mexico City and the lifestyle surrounding it.

I like Cumbia. I will check it out!

I am not that into salsa. I am more into Afro Latin grooves.
When I was in Panama a few years back I discovered that they had this movement of funk/soul influenced music in the 70s. I love these songs:

If you like that type of music you will also be into Cami Laye Okun‘s radio show on NTS. It is excellent. She reposts the sets on her mixcloud.

nice! I'd never seen that. Like the song more than the part itself actually....sensacional! (I tend to get bored by ledge skating pretty quick)

also it reminded me of this:

and not many people know that, but the Gypsy Kings is actually a French band!

documentary sounds interesting, will check it out thanks.

Also the Panama stuff sounds good to my ears, will check out more too. On the topic of mixing soul and latin grooves, boogaloo is dope!
This album by Eddie Palmieri is all-time...

Chico (of course!) spotted in the video for this new track by Residente! This guy is one half of PR duo Calle 13, one of the only reggaeton artists I actually like....

The Royal Jesters are smooooooth:
https://youtu.be/qEQgw1xFqXI

Milton is so damn good
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rJz-tazK4I&ab_channel=MiltonNascimento-Topic

Sergio mendes instrumentally is also great. Some people he has featured on albums are meh but this song is a banger
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcM4k0lbQyQ&ab_channel=SergioMendes

This was actually used in someone's part in a Sk8Mafia vid a few years back but forget who. Kinda got a 70's prog feel mixed with classical jazz guitar. so sick

thanks for the contributions man!

that was good, I guess we needed some brazilian flavor in here, did not have it yet. I know some of Mendes and Milton's stuff, but I had never heard of the Royal Jesters and Triana. and Triana waoh! awesome. I never knew some Spanish bands had attempted to mix prog and flamenco. Super sick. The only song remotely close to that I knew is this Al Di Meola track, which rocks to say the least. some of the most incredible musicianship I've ever heard.

My father loved this style; you have now plunged me into my childhood for a while. I remember how we spent evenings together, and he showed me the music he loved, thus educating my taste and hearing. Thanks to my father, I can now distinguish geniuses from ordinary people who create mediocre music for money, not for the sake of art. It is vital because creativity takes a back seat in the modern world, and cash and earnings are always first. I would like to know what service you use since I only know 2021 concerts on https://show4me.com/discover/concerts, and in ordinary life, I listen to music on records using a player.
