Heel drop skate shoes
« on: October 28, 2021, 04:44:42 AM »
Are there any skate shoes with a decent heel drop? I'm dealing with achilles tendinopathy and have been recommended getting shoes with a heel drop. This is super common in running shoes but I can't find any info on skate shoes that have it. Maybe the Tyshawn?

Yeah Adidas probably has something that might suit

Maybe have a look at Adidas 3st.004 or liberty cup

The Adidas Forum Low ADV also has a pretty significant heel drop.

The Dill FA X Addidas I got are damn near flat, I think they have the same sole as the new busenitz, with the lines in the tread around the edge.

I have the opposite need - I wear orthotics with a small post under the heel, so I'm way up on my tippy toes if the shoe has much heel drop. Tyshawns work fine for me, so I assume they'd be too flat for you.

I tried NB# 440's and couldn't wear them, mainly because there was too much heel drop, so I think they should work for you. Adidas Busenitz, as others have said, probably have the most heel drop of any skate shoe out. Cons Pro Leather, NB# 508, and NB# 1010 would be worth your time to try on as well.

It might help if you check out the shoe reviews on Weartested. They dissect the shoes when they're done with them, so you can get an idea from their photos how much drop to expect. Here's their 1010 cross-section for example:

Busenitz and Tyshawns have this “heel drop”.

Cons and Last Resort have the opposite.

Tyshawn has it but it's quite mellow, Tiago 1010 had a more pronounced heel drop.

Not much use for actual skating but the DC Kalis lite has a decent heel drop also.

As a chronic achilles tendonitis sufferer, I cannot wear adidas because (most) of their shoes have that super high support bit at the ankle. If I wear those shoes, my tendonitis flares up just by the leather hitting my achilles and then I am done for a couple of months.
Get well man, resting is your friend. Also, try to eat kale and broccoli regularly, they help.

Busenits is much more than Tyshawn.

I hate any extreme heel drop and can't really wear the busenits. The Tyshawn are fine for me, not really much.

I am surprised the 1010 is that high on the cutaway, might not grab a pair (also cant find the wheat ones)

Adidas for sure. The 3st.004 would be the shoe. It’s got that big ass boost heel. I hated them for that. They might be the shit for you though. Good luck, dude!

OG Busenitz should be your first stop, like everyone said. I feel like its at least 10cm.

Westgate's new shoe looks like it has some too but I've not skated it.

I haven't either, but it's the same sole unit that was on the old 288 (not 288S); which people said was very similar to the Busenitz, if I recall correctly.

people please stop saying busanitz shoes hes looking for a higher heel than toe. you might want to wear some running shoes when you arent skating. some nike air running shoes are good looking running shoes.

most skate shoes wont have a heel drop, because we want to be a stable as possible. if you want a heel drop you might need to find a insole that you can put in. i know nike metcons have a heel insert that you can put into their shoes for when you squat to give you a little bit of a lift in the heel for mobility. if you look up heel lift inserts for weightlifting you can find some. versa lifts make some. but skate shoes wont normally have much if any of a heel drop.

But he’s not looking for a higher heel than toe. He’s looking for “ZERO DROP” which is a hiking / running shoe term for flat soles . Or ones that DONT raise your heel above your toe, making it feel like you are standing up on your toes.

The busenitz is the worst example of zero drop . It’s not flat at all .

Are there any skate shoes with a decent heel drop? I have been recommended getting shoes with a heel drop.

I feel like the insole is more important than the shoe itself, eg an orthotic / molded insole will create that kind of shape and angle required for this sort of thing.

I tried quite a few (and went for something I make myself from cardboard as it is easier and cheaper) but there are a number out there, including Footprint Orthotic Elite and many others.

You might be surprised how much you can change the feel of a simple shoe with a bit of folded, cut and glued cardboard.

I get that people are more keen to find a shoe that fits best without having to mess with it, but it is another option.

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.
