Las Vegas
« on: November 22, 2021, 10:44:48 AM »
Gonna be there for a week for work. Are there any spots near the main hotels and casinos that can be skated early in the morning or at night? Any tips/info would be greatly appreciated.

Only time I skated when I was in Vegas I didn’t go exploring the street spots and just went to Craig ranch which is this huge park but it’s gated so I would check the hours and it was also super slick. I skated another park that was like a plaza that went around in a rectangle but I can’t recall the name. I can look it up but I just spent time at the parks

I went to Justice Myron E. Leavitt & Jaycee Skatepark one night, and a few nights I just skated the side streets off the strip. I ended up not having much time to skate because of 12-hour work days and I was only there for about a week. On the way into the city from the airport, I saw this sick bank to wall spot on Tropicana Ave. and Las Vegas Blvd., but I didn't get to skate it. It had some wheel marks so people have skated it but it's also next to a busy street so it might be tough to hit it.

One thing that surprised me was how sandy and slick the skatepark was. Not used to that being from the PNW. Interesting how every climate has its own challenges when it comes to the weather and terrain.

Is there a legit shop in Vegas?

All the shops that come up on Google seem kooky as fuck. And, there is no way I'm giving Pharmacy a dime (or going to a mall).

Edit: I'll take the lack of responses as a no.

Hit up Desert Breeze skatepark and you might just run into Baca skating around with his kids.

Las Vegas is one of the most slept on skate scenes. I’ve spent years of my life road tripping to Las Vegas from San Diego to skate and I can tell you that there is a plethora of spots and parks. One person already mentioned Craig Ranch skatepark in North Las Vegas, that park is my favorite, it’s has lights, but it is pretty slick (most parks in Vegas are) and can get pretty crowded. That park is massive, so finding a little section of the park to skate will be pretty easy. Anthem skate Park in Henderson is a lot of fun too. One person also mentioned Desert Breeze skate park, I wouldn’t call it a great skatepark, but it’s got personality, and that place has a cult following, so careful what you say about the park, the locals will throw down in a heart beat if you disrespect the place. As far as spots, I’d recommend checking out some local videos, Cake it and Cake it 2 would be some good ones to check out, then hitting up a park or Pharmacy skate shop to get directions. I’d also recommend staying as far away from the strip as possible. March is the perfect time to go to Vegas, not too hot not too cold

^^so you are saying, Pharmacy, the local mall store, is the closest thing Vegas has to an actual shop? And, people will start a fight if someone points out that Desert Breeze is a poorly designed and poorly built park? (Are they really that hyped on the 15 foot kinked rail that is 2 inches off the ground and the fact that none of the ledges end with 90 angles?)

Sadly, I can't say that any of this is convincing me to give Vegas a second chance.

I get what you’re saying but it’s a pretty simple solution, just don’t go to these places. No need to write off an entire city because people have pride for a shitty skate park and the most recognizable skate shop is now located in a mall. Desert Breeze is one of the original parks in Las Vegas and many people have grown up here, so yeah they got some pride for the place. You’d be surprised, when you look past all the things you’ve mentioned about the park, it is actually pretty fun. But if it doesn’t tickle your fancy, then go to another park, there is no shortage of skateparks in the Las Vegas metro area. Not trying to belittle you for your stance on the park or shop, I respect it, but give a the city a chance and you’ll love it. Street spots, ditches, parks, partying (if you’re into that kind of thing), Vegas is a good time
