Whats the difference between Ace AF1 and Classic trucks?
« on: November 23, 2021, 12:45:48 PM »
Apart from the axel width sizing?
I've tried searching the forum but can't find a definitive answer.

I think the Ace thread pretty much covers every tiny detail, but it is probably not so much fun going through the 160+ pages of it looking for info.

Classic - more simple, cheaper, sharper turns

AF1 - more technologically advanced, more expensive, wheelbase and turn is more like Indy (but still definitely Ace)

That might be about it for the really simple stuff, but personal opinion is very much divided as to which one is better.

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Would also add that Ace Classics (subjectively) feel like they have a softer metal hanger than AF1’s which give them a more buttery grind feel especially on chunkier curbs and ledges.  This also has resulted in them wearing down faster than the set of AF1’s that I skated in my experience.

Just an opinion but they pretty much turn the same. Maybe slightly slowed down/ stabilized geometry on the AF!. Harder metal. Likely stronger and more durable. Unless you prefer the sizing I wouldn't worry about it.

AF1s are harder and grind faster because of that.

AF1 are harder and more durable, but also more expensive. Classics have a better grind (buttery is the perfect description), but less durable. I prefer classics

Some serious pivot cup issues apparently …

Impish sausage is definitely gonna blow up as a euphemism this year

From what I understand, harder metal, they beefed them up, so they are heavier, but they advertise the AF-1’s as the strongest cast truck on the market.

They say same turning as the Classics, but it didn’t seem the same to me, personally. I feel like they measure different for wheelbase when measured from axle to axle. At least they did for me.

And then the obvious, which is the new sizing.

And if you’re wondering, the only negative I’ve found with the AF-1’s, is the clicking they make.

The clicking goes away eventually. AF1s have bad pivot cups, some have gotten them warrantied. AF1s are much more stable at the cost of a TINY bit of turn. Other than the pivot cups I think AF1s are better all around if you skate everything. Some people like the "buttery" grind feel of classics, and I can say you definitely have a bit more control of your grinds on them, but you grind much slower.

I cheaped out and can’t afford a second set of af1 so I took my old classic 44 hangar and slapped it on the af1 baseplate

Literally kept the geometry same

I’d say the different is in the finish and casting process or build

Seems like af1 have more solid grain in the cast and the axle is more solid
yes

Geometry is slightly different no matter what Ace says.

AF1s add 1/4" to the WB.

The AF refers to how heavy they are…..
