the responsibilities of being a PAL
« on: July 22, 2023, 01:31:15 AM »
Well PALS, we're almost there. I say we, because we're all in this together... As I fast approach PAL status, I can't help but think of my sk8boarding brothers and sisters who are in the same predicament, who share the same sentiment. A love shared that transcends the boundaries of space and time, connected through 1s and 0s in a shared space we call a, "message board." A collective agreement of love and passion focused towards an inanimate object, but an inanimate object that breeds so much life and culture. 1000 is a significant number (although not as significant as 69 or 420, but significant nonetheless.)

As I traverse upwards towards this number, I contemplate the responsibility that accompanies this milestone. Is the milestone man made, or a figment in all of our heads, or does this number and the time spent reaching it really mean something? Once I, or we, hit that significant number, what should I keep in mind? Should I keep anything in mind at all?

With great power comes great responsibility. What are the responsibilities of being a PAL?

Be generous with the gnars. Save the kooks for those who truly deserve them.

This is what I've lived by in my short time with the power. Any time anyone makes me laugh, smile or just supports something I believe in I throw out gnars like candy at a parade but it takes a particularly malicious or mean-spirited shit post to get the kook.

I still keep forgetting about the other side. Made maybe one embarrassing post as I tend to do and never looked back.

Be generous with the gnars. Save the kooks for those who truly deserve them.

Ideally try not to let the kook button become the "I mildly disagree" button.
e.g. "This guy rides 54mm wheels? I'm more of a 52mm person. Better hit the kook button."

Do the responsibilities of being a pal involve kooking me for calling out your sacred cow pal for being a condescending sexist?

I was doing pals labours earlier.

I met two kids in Lynn. One had just started 4 days ago. I let um know

A ) Venture 2020 is actually in their future. Told them DANCE like Ishod.

B) I told them about Slap. I said fuck everything else. Slap is the real skatebloarding. Get down with us.

C ) one of them was riding a Disorber bloard so I let um know he might be the hand rail king of the modern era but .... Nigel is a creep and his products are poser shit. I said wouldn't you feel better riding on a Miles board? I blew a little smoke to ease the kooking he earned buying that garbage. You skate a little like Miles kinda.

D) I tripled down on Venture and Slap and did all but issue them an account for the boards.

I feel like it's my responsibility as a human frickin being to lead other skaters to this place we have.

I hope they bring weed
Plz stop killing each other
