Lies of P is Pinocchio?
« on: September 19, 2023, 10:38:25 AM »
Just saw the release of the new darksouls game that does a dark retelling of Pinocchio?

This looks good, so far-fetched that I'm intrigued.

Looks fun. It’s not from software but looks solid.

Looks to be one of the better Souls-likes so far... obviously no one is beating From Soft at their own game but I'm totally fine with other developers trying to put their own spin on the formula

aw damn I didn't notice that it was a different developer, it looks like they took the same map building template from elden ring but added a steampunk renaissance twist.

Closer to Bloodborne/Dark Souls 3 style level design as it's focused on smaller, interconnected areas and not open world but definitely trying to emulate From's style all around. Gameplay itself is very close to Bloodborne with transforming weapons and the 'regain lost health by attacking quickly' mechanic. Aside from Nioh I think most non-From souls-likes have been pretty bad but I'm cautiously optimistic about this one.

They worked some cool Pinocchio stuff into the gameplay like the ability to tell the truth or lie to NPC's... not sure how the lies effect anything long term but you could do cool stuff with that

beat it a couple days ago, amazing game. highly rec if you're a souls fan. final boss is incredible (just make sure you click the "refuse" dialog option if you want to fight it). held me over for lords of the fallen soon

Pinocchio is dark enough.  Naughty young boys becoming asses shipped off to an inescapable Pleasure island full of adult vices... Yikes.

playing this on game pass, I've played a few hours of various Souls-likes but I've committed to this one.

I've been fighting the first boss for a couple hours and can't get him past half way. I know its part of the loop and I'm not getting frustrated, I'm just wanting to be able to play effectively lol

Do i just keep hammering away until I get the muscle memory for the attack patterns?
Do you see another one of these over there?

parade master, but i just beat him - i wasn't blocking or parrying enough. too much dodging and wasn't getting the proper spacing

Well I'm getting better at this game, still not very good at getting perfect blocks and its kinda biting me in the ass in the mid-game.

Any souls players find this game particularly difficult?
