Thrasher's "Grindland"
« on: January 10, 2022, 01:03:56 PM »

Opening with Viet Cong era Preoccupation's gets my approval. I've already seen a lot about burnside and these cats but I'm sure there's plenty more to see.

Just watched the trailer, I've said it before but I'm so glad Thrasher is doing stuff like this now. Looking forward to this!

I'm stoked about this. Love projects like this where the history (I'm a bit of a history geek) of these places and these people are told.

Anyone know what the first song in the trailer was? It’s something familiar but I can’t figure it out.

I hope they are up front about this. I can’t stand documentaries that dance around the less savory stuff.

It's "March of Progress" by Viet Cong who are now Preoccupations, good shit. Before Viet Cong the majority of the band were in Women too who also made great moody noisey rock.

Cool.
Looking forward what kind of story they will tell. The Burnside story is already told and known.
Legendary place - setting up the blueprint for all DIY.

Would like to see the full story how they start Grindline and Dreamland from the Burnside Crew and
pushing skateboard design and build into new heights with legendary parks worldwide.
Background Storys from the main projects. heard some sick stories - but just rumors.
Want to hear the facts from the source.

Damn right before the end of the final event when Cory Juneau slammed and was exhibiting fencing response (concussion symptom) in the bottom of the bowl at the end - that was gnarly.

Not sure the film was especially artful but it was entertaining and complete enough, if not uneven.

it's definitely watchable - i enjoyed it, but it's not really that much of a documentary. the film doesn't really dive any deeper than the trailer does and if you're already well versed in skateboarding/skate history you already know the story they're trying to tell.

still a fun watch though

Definitely how I felt about it.  The present-day competition at Lincoln City is used as a B-story to cut back and forth to.  Relevant and compelling for sure.  But I was hoping there was gonna be a little more 3-act structure / Dogtown and ZBoys treatment to Mark and Red’s story.  Wanted something more in depth for sure, but for a free less than an hour doc it was a great watch.  I really liked “The Tony Alva Story” Six Stair did.  Maybe not an apples to apples comparison, but was another near-hour-long doc and I feel like it covered a bit more ground.

Deinitely a hook up the homies edit.  Would’ve probably bummed out the hellride crew too much to get into particulars about substance abuse or controversy of any kind.  Maybe Nine Club consulted on this one

we all wanna know the details as humans but, he’s got a wife and kids. one of which spoke in the film on the verge of tears talking about her father. i’m sure they don’t want him remembered that way and have heard it all enough times. it was a skateboarder made documentary that was free on the thrasher website, it’s not sundance festival. i enjoyed it. rest in peace.

imagine fucking the dog shit outta chris roberts
