do yall think hockey backtracked out of their speculated deal with zumiez bc of bad reception from the slap threads and gifted hater video?

they actually responded to gifted hater calling them overplayed/uncool by throwing a jam at LA last year, so i think its plausible

lol for real? could you link that?

Dill had some quote about him. He didn't name him directly, but it was some boomer thing about kids sitting behind their computers talking shit. Someone who actually remembers things can probably post where it was, but it was clearly about GH.

In this era of fake positivity and socially obligatory friendliness, it's good to have some gatekeeping and criticism in the mix. But I'm afraid one YouTube channel is not enough. We need the Slap consciousness to permeate all of skateboarding.

I don’t know if FA is really altering their plans because of GH, but here is what Dill said about GH initially:

This.  Page 1, 4th column, a third of the way down, “from civillians…”

This might be his most boring upload to date. He should’ve waited a day and reacted to the drama about him on that thread to spice things up a bit.

damn. gh is having a very rough time producing an irish accent there.

he has a specific skill set, and that certainly isn't part of it.

also slightly mindblown that someone can watch skate videos for a living and not know what parallel is. surely a contender for the most filmed spot on the planet?

mostly fairpoints, but i'm not sure what the value is in saying 'it's like he's a flat ground specialist attempting to apply his skills to street!' - that's literally the premise.

it's like saying 'how is austin powers a spy hero? the dude's so goofy'.

but i like the outro. joa's normally pretty levelheaded.

hes starting to have that bam margera "im so full of myself and state what ridiculous things are happening right now" voice while making fun of others. I thought this video was incredibly whack. its ok to point out that griffins tricks aren't the most tasteful but making fun about almost every clip with that stupid laugh in his voice is straight up bullying.

The guy has zero historical knowledge. Which is what irks me sometimes because he talks shit but doesn't know shit. Perhaps it's a generational thing even though we're roughly the same age.

maybe in the early 2000s but it hasn't been in videos consistently for a long time because it's now a pseudo-skatepark (which he notes in this video so he does seem to at least vaguely know what it is even if he's not able to recall the name/exact location). it's not surprising to me that someone who didn't start consuming skate media until at least the late 2000s if not early 2010s wouldn't be as familiar with that spot.

it's been mentioned a million times but this is definitely a good example of it: he could really stand to improve his understanding of the historical context of the skateboarding he's critiquing. as a cultural commentator i think his perspective would really gain a lot of value if he was able to add that to the mix. if he spent a month going back and watching some of the classics, even just the mainstays from each era, it would really help. like, when he's talking about Dill/AVE and FA, has he seen Dill's part in Photosynthesis or AVE's part in the DC Video? when he's talking about how Flip is a lame company nowadays, is he familiar with how insane of a chokehold they had on the industry during the Sorry days? i don't think it would necessarily change his opinions and it probably shouldn't but i think it would strengthen his evidentiary arguments (which are usually pretty good!). it would also probably make some decent content for his streams to go back and watch stuff like that and critique it from a modern lens, so win-win

Sometimes I will hear an opinion of his that I hate so much and think is crazy. Then I remember he is exactly as advertised. Gifted at skateboarding, and gifted at hating. I can appreciate people sharing their views in an entertaining way even when I disagree with them.

Also he is not posting these things saying they are the laws of skateboarding, he is just sharing his opinions.

I find his content to be entertaining, and on the rarest occasions informative on certain aspects of skateboarding most of us don't have insider access to or knowledge of.

Basically I view his videos the same way I do reality TV: it's a moment for me to turn my brain off with some mindless distraction. Many of his opinions and perspectives, particularly on things outside of skateboarding, I don't agree with and I don't think come from a place of lived experience.

I think there's a shelf life to what he does and from what I've seen there's generally only a few ultimate outcomes for Youtubers, unless he's able to fully pivot into something else. It'll all come crashing down or fizzle out eventually, so might as well laugh and enjoy in the meantime.

I think thats a regional thing. Where I am from a crack in some concrete is a spot but we are desperate haha. LA seems to have 5 skate spots per parking lot and 2 skateparks within view of everyones front door.

Yeah this seems like a misstep but who knows, I usually agree with his take. Despite him claiming otherwise, this one seems weirdly vindictive.

The fact that he had to add that voiced over disclaimer at the end (the walking back on ripping on him stuff) says a lot... however some of his takes are pretty valid, there are way too many noseslide variations in that edit, it's about 2 mins too long, and the filming/editing really isn't helping show JG in as positive light as it could.

It's just an opinion piece at the end of the day, albeit a slightly snarkier one than usual at someone who is a bit of an easy target.

I've got time for Jamie Griffin, he's working pretty hard and has done well for himself...I don't love everything he does but he's out there doing it, so fair play.

He does come in hot in the beginning but mellows out near the middle-end. I lol'd when he joked about "I pulled a double hard".

TBH never heard of this dude and first time seeing him skate and thought the stuff in the beginning had booboo style, a few tricks I liked but not feeling it...ender was cool

Same here the only time I heard about JG is when GH mentions him. This is the first time I saw JG skate and it was horrid. I got so bored, not from GH but having to watch the skating. GH was on a good one and he was pretty apologetic about it the whole time. There were a couple of things I wanted to quote but I watched it last night and I've forgotten

JG deserved every minute of that opinion. I hope he listens and learns form it. It will only make him better

That was the most entitled so-cal cool guy shit i've ever seen. Fucken hell. The way he just chuckled at all the tricks was so infuriating. I don't like Jamie Griffin's skating either but if I had GH's audience I would never use it to punch down on someone who as far as skateboarding goes is basically from a third world country. 'Omg he doesn't know anything about street skating...' yeah no shit cunt, that's what happens when you grow up in rural Ireland.

Joa, that was cruel. Karma will catch up to you for that one.
