CURRENT WOODSHOP DIRECTORY 2022 +

Last updated as of 17th May 2022

Main thread from 2021

https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=116070.0

I am happy to keep this list as current and up to date as possible, so the first post on the first page can have the most current information with regard to which woodshop brands get their boards from.

Anything not on this list or changes that need to be made, please add info to this thread, so I can correct or add it to the list.

Previous woodshop threads here for historical reference:

2017  https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=95042.0

2018  https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=97940.0

2019  https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=103057.0

2020  https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=108595.0

2021  https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=115427.0

For 2022:

This is the current woodshop list with Brand in alphabetical order, then by Woodshop in the second post as it became too long and went over the limit of what could be included in one post.

Note:  For brands with multiple suppliers with a * after their name, any that have changed should have the older one with -2020 and the new one with 2021+ or something similar, which should make it easier to know which is the current supplier.  Also for some continents / countries who have different suppliers, they will be shown with (EU) after the brand name.

The last "woodshop list" post will be an accumulated list of information on which woodshops are used for shop boards.

Given this could change fairly regularly, I will try to also include dates as to when this was listed, so if you are after something and see it is from years ago, chances are it might not be so current.

Shopboards

_________ _________ _________ _________ _________

Info with pics of various woodshops markings, so they are all in the one place.

Note this will be changing as brands and woodshops update their information but I will try to copy relevant pics to here in this post so they are all in the one place and people don't have to look through all the previous threads or the 30+ pages of information.

This will take some time, so I hope to have this going within a week.

From April 2021:

I have been compiling some (info and pics) which would make it a whole lot easier for some people to reference and then be able to work out what the boards were, but I think there will still be a lot of others or generic boards with similar stickers on them so people could get confused and not know.

Eg

Clutch - usually (but not always) has a letter and a number stamped into the wood around the front bolt holes, then often the size in a dot sticker often over the stamp, or right beside it.

PS Stix - always has some sort of laser engraving information but mainly has SN# PS 39383837 type of info, which is the identifying info of that particular deck, the warning sticker usually higher up on the nose.

BBS - harder to tell with no sticker (unless it has Generator sticker) but often just a dot imprint around front bolts area and sometimes laser engraving for the specific brand, if not "Built by BBS" and size info, sometimes the warning sticker over the bolts, but usually just above the bolts.  More recently they also have a smaller holographic sticker around the back bolts are with BBS on it.  Warning sticker usually has "Made in Mexico" on it.

Dwindle - laser engraving with serial number, size, brand info under the front bolts area, not between the front bolt holes.

Control - red white maple leaf sticker in between front bolts.

HLC - laser engraving with info on the deck, more often under the front bolts, but usually lower down closer to the back bolts in the middle area.  Sometimes has "Made in Europe" or similar words.

Generic manufacturer in China - usually just the size of the deck either between front bolts, just under it, or from another place, on the top or bottom under the back bolts, usually a bigger font.

BBS / Generator - bigger / wider dot stamp in the middle of the front bolts, often with other laser printing or info on the board and the warning sticker "Made in Mexico" as well as newer boards having a holographic BBS sticker over the back bolts.

https://bbsmfg.com/2021/05/15/bbs-made-authentic-sticker/

BBS Made Authentic Sticker
Keep an eye out for this sticker. If you board has this sticker, you can be 100% positive BBS built this board using 100% pure hard rock maple. No birch or soft maple allowed!!

I also noticed on the Uprise post, the sizes and also the BBS hologram stickers which are over the back bolts on top as per the last frame.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CSAilzApqGq/

This is a Baker board, same as Heroin, Birdhouse and Deathwish, all having the dot in the middle and the size stamp just below that, on the front truck area, which is BBS wood. This one being an 8.475 size deck.

BBS made UMA deck - I can see the dot in the middle of the text under the "X" in the 8.9 X 32.5

Nice pic of the top of an Uma deck courtesy of Jef Hartsel. Which woodshop is this?  BBS

Sure thing,

Let me get my whiz snapper and, VOILA! Smoking Dog, lasered on I think:  (And dot above his hat)

https://www.instagram.com/p/CEYeJHold0o/

Some good looking Darkroom BBS wood, all with tops too

Warning sticker between the front bolts and another size / shape sticker under that - the small red rectangle, sort of the reverse of how Polar BBS boards are done with the size sticker between bolts and the warning sticker under that.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CQF_G0Zl2O-/

I pulled a close up from another deck I had a picture of, also Killing Floor, BBS wood.

DLX top stamp, from I to IV as per where the decks are on the press, I being at the top and IV at the bottom.

Click on the image for a really good hi res view.

Clutch markings and information

Not always, but Clutch usually has a letter and a number stamp around the front bolts area, then a size sticker is often placed beside or over the stamps, usually a circle with the width number in it, like this one below.

.

just got the HUF x Street Fighter boards. not sure on woodshop. all the boards have “7K” etched on the top b

Hate to double post, but SWH got back to me. They get all their blanks from Clutch still. He even linked me their ‘most up to date’ shape guide. Apparently I’m riding the S6, as expected.

Fancy Lad is on Clutch - also looks like different / new size stickers on those boards, so not sure if they are doing that on all their boards, or only some brands, but the big size sticker in black and white makes it pretty clear to see (would usually have the letter / number stamped into the wood under that area too)

As has been said before, it is also interesting to see the slightly more individual stain colours from certain woodshops too, in particular the dark green for Clutch shown here.

From the 2012 listing (old info but it is interesting to see):

PS Stix

PS wood has SN# PS09393 - 0930 on it too, always the PS(five digits, which refer to the batch number) - (four digits, which refer to the individual board number).

Here is the generic PS Stix top to show anyway.

Street Plant is on PS Stix - warning sticker above the PS laser etched info

I think Professor Schmitt has alluded to the fact that he can look up any board he has made in previous posts, but confirms it in this one in comments - since mid 2003, as he has it all recorded, but is not willing to give out any information like that.

Edit:  Some PS Stix boards actually have Shape # 21 or whatever number it is on them, from boards I have here too.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CQUqedoDoNl/

A few differences in woodshop tops I have found, as per previous Toy Machine boards, here is a PS Stix.

Welcome PS Stix top

Almost / Dwindle top including renewal logo over back truck bolts in second pic

Another one just tossed in there too - Dwindle regrowth logos, all printed, none burned into the decks.

Dwindle wood, but no markings or any other info on the boards themselves, but info provided by the company that they use Dwindle as their source.

Pennswood

No markings as far as I know.

Stiff, solid boards, steeper kicks, medium concave.

Control - Canada

Maple leaf sticker, sometimes red leaf on white background, other times red leaf on black background.
Possibly a mold / shape / press stamp between front bolts too, usually a single number.

Thanks @rocklobster for this pic:

Can anyone give me a quick review of Control boards?

The "local" shop is now a distro for Studio, but it's local in the sense that it's a 2 hour drive away and I'd rather just order online. Wondering if there's any reason not to try a Studio? The decks are about €10 cheaper than most brands and the graphics aren't offensive so I thought I'd give it a try unless there is a noticeable quality difference.

For reference I usually buy Quasi (PS), FA/Hockey (BBS), or the occasional AH (BBS) in that order of preference.
[close]

Definitely more mellow.  The kicks are abrupt and flat ie not curved, but not steep.  Concave is on the flatter side.  Wood I felt not too bad, not heavy...

Not that anyone cares but me

MoMA/TheSkateRoom use Control as noted by the Made in Canada stickers they use.

I'm always checking in in hopes that they'll randomly have a sale, but they never do.

Prime

Like I said, I remember hearing they were BBS but when I looked into getting one of the scram-hain popsicles a while back those were definitely prime. In the image below you'll see the U5 mold and size between the rear truck holes on the top. That may have been a pandemic thing, or they may use someone else for the shaped boards and then run the popsicles at prime. That's really all the intel I have about them though, I had no desire to really investigate further as I wasn't a fan of the only prime deck I've tried.

Here's the press stamps from the prime deck I just got. All the ones I've had or handled had the alignment divot but only like half had the size/mold stamp. They also have a heritage logo one that they use on reissues.

Made in China (maybe Dalian Hauhong)

Zero boards with no markings or only a tiny nail like tip dot front middle bolt area (also made in China on sticker).

Generic "Made in China" boards

Anyone saw the newest Ben Degros video about the new blanks in his shop ? He didn't said what woodshop they are coming from, business secret bla bla, but I really dig the 8.25 shape he showed and wondered..
I'm in the EU so no chance to get me some from canada but maybe there's a chance to find one from a brand that uses the same woodshop.
Engraving looks like this

What wood shop does CCS use? I ordered a custom, and it has a single dimple between nose bolts. My immediate guess is woodchuck laminates?

Single small "nail like" dots also seem to be on boards that are known to be made in China, but it is a much smaller sharper dot than the big round flatter ones on BBS boards, or some others.

A couple of online reviews show a plain / natural bottom ply and fairly long flat / steep kicks, which could also be different from then to now too.

This just happened to come up earlier today and I was going to post in this thread anyway, just another board brand with an unknown / miscellaneous supplier most likely from China with the size over the back bolt area and no idea about wheelbase on that one, but the others with similar stamps had longer than normal wheelbases.

Also didn't realise this lot are Dutch:

I know this has been posted before in other places, but woodshop tours don't get much more in depth than this:

Tour of BBS woodshop

Tour of HLC

Tour of Drifter Skateboard Manufacturing

Doing some more research and came across a tour of the PS Stix factory from 2007, so although it is fairly old, it was mentioned that they do FIVE decks at a time here.

https://skateparkoftampa.com/article/785/Paul_Schmitt's_Skateboard_Deck_Factory,_PS_Stix

The comment:

You know the plies of your skateboard deck? Well, this machine is a press that glues the separate plies together. They do five boards at a time, so that's why sometimes you get the same exact board with a little more or little less concave

Other places like BBS do FOUR at a time (top the steepest concave and bottom the most mellow concave), while many others (especially in China) are geared up to do ONE at a time, but they have presses that hold about eight to ten decks in each, so each individual deck is identical.

Clutch deleted their Instagram a while back, but there are other people and accounts I had been following and had looked up, including ASF and Julio De La Cruz believing they are all related.

Post for DIY Woodshops and smaller guys out there:

another backyard wood shop. So sick

All decks are hand glued, pressed, shaped, painted, screen-printed, glossed, and shrinkwrapped one at a time by the Manak family in our backyard in San Jose, Ca. We add extra press time and cure times to make a higher quality, better performing deck. Hand-glued leads to a stiffer, longer-lasting board with everlasting pop. In most cases, our boards will last 3 times longer than a factory-made deck. Low tech, no tech!

Perhaps Darkroom is also now Clutch (at least for the new drop)?
I was about to pick up one of the new ones thinking it was BBS (my preference) but seems they are “produced in the USA”. Not saying this is bad, just a change from what I expected. Anyone know for sure? (no shops near me stock so i cant check in person)

The site has always said that and they themselves have posted on IG in the comments about being on generator wood. I would go for it. 90% sure it’s not clutch

Cool, yeah I think your right, I’m going to pull the trigger. I’m probably overthinking it due to all the chopping and changing of woodshops going on (really thankful for this thread!).

I do find it a bit funny when some companies have a " ... in USA" be it "Made" or whatever other wording, given that all these big woodshops all produce their boards outside of the USA and bring them back into the USA, sometimes with or without graphics, which then can be put on via heat transfer in a distribution warehouse in the USA.

I guess it is the same as a lot of other companies that have a mixed message about where things come from, not outright lies, but some shops and places like to put things on there that are often not exactly true.

BBS, PS Stix and Clutch are all made in Mexico, Dwindle in China, and very few woodshops still operating in the USA, as per info on the first page, second post.

Anyone else find this statement funny, if indeed BBS do the boards and heat transfers all in house, in Mexico:

"Produced in the USA with the highest quality wood and most functional shapes, these are some of the most solid decks in the industry."

* BBS are my preferred option for wood, so not knocking BBS or Darkroom, just curious more than anything, but also asking for clarification or calling bullshit on their statement.
