Non Vert Pro‘s who wear protection ?
« on: May 02, 2022, 12:16:31 PM »
Ain’t too many street skaters who wear some kind of protection.

Some do wear one wrist guard if they are injured, but that’s kind of it in my opinion.

You know any pros who do? ( let’s take the obvious away first - Andy Anderson).

Quick shout out to Gino wearing the hugest wrist stabilizer/soft cast in Yeah Right. Whenever I put my wrist guard on I just pretend that I'm him doing that line at Lockwood.

Dill wore a removable cast thing for a real long time. I'm guessing he had a fractured scaphoid. Easy to do takes fucking forever to heal.
I think Salman did the same.
Mike Anderson and van wastell wear some elbow support thing. I'd guess dislocated elbow.
Not so much protection but I think Ave basically had his big toe and ball of foot in a temporary cast/strapping/padding during propeller.

Not sure if this counts, but Ryan Lay skates with a knee brace.
This is not my SOTY. I'm telling my kids there was no SOTY for 2021

I thought this thread was going to be about non-vert pros who rip vert because those are some of my favorites...

Always loved seeing MC and Rick Howard, Koston, Danny Sargent, Salman Agah pad up and rip vert in the 90s. And of course the obvious like Senn, Stranger, Cardiel.

Compression sleeve. I wear mine for swellbows. If I fall on a swellbow my arm goes numb and I have a hard time moving it. The compression sleeve helps alleviate that. Sometimes I’ll even pair it with a single elbow pad if needed

Ronnie Sandoval said he wears a volleyball pad on one knee but doesn't believe it would do much for impact.

I don't know why these aren't more popular/they aren't sponsoring  https://g-form.com/knee-pads-mountain-bike-skateboard

I'm guessing don't sponsor because any skater that wears pads just outright wears the classic big vert kneepads. I've thought about getting one of those I have one kneecap that if I hit even just medium impact it will completely swell up. Actually tried a volleyball kneepad and all it did was make me feel like a dweeb.

Is it like the ones NBA players wear with the pads in it? I have the same problem but with my knee but haven't found anything that really helps.

Don't know if he wears 'em, but word around town for JCas is that magnums are what he fits.

Ronnie blew the fuck out of his kneecap so I guess he figures any little bit might help?

@Mean salto
It has a little gel pad, but it’s not really for impact protection like a true pad. I also have compression sleeves for my knees. If I skate too much without taking days off they start to get sore. Other times I get wobbly knees if I skate transition after taking a week or so off. The compression sleeves help keep them in place and allow me to skate pain free

From what I understand that’s just the word around town.

I think Ronnie Sandoval uses something like the McDavid Hex pads.
