The first boards were honestly kind of sick. Americana, Little rascals, sandlot, badnews bears, nostalgia. That would have been a sick direction. I think it would have worked for well for american boy Sheckler. But nah, lets quit Plan B to do Plan B at home.

that logo

Pretty much this. It doesn't matter what direction they will take when it comes to graphics – add the logo to the graphic and it will suck.

I also think the first few graphics potentially hinted at an art direction that could bring something new to the table, a certain feeling that a lot of the either blandly illustrated or pseudo artsy graphic series of a lot of companies are missing these days, but the logo still fully ruined the decks.

[close]

Truly insane you use one of the most recognized logos in skateboarding on an unrelated skateboard product in this way. I would think Spitfire would be within their rights to take legal action here.

It is insane to use that.
Don’t believe the swirl is a Spitfire original. There is a techno 12” center label from 1995 with it. When did Spitfire first use it? Would love to know.

Completely insane for skateboard graphics to rip off another brand. Complete blasphemy. I guess there’s a first for everything though.

there's some spitfires with the swirl in this catalog (1991), but i think they've been using that graphic before that. the spitfire shirt with the number 1 that guy wore in video days also has little swirls on it, and the shirts with the swirl on the back are called "classic 87 swirl", that leads me to the conclusion that they've been using it since 1987.

Good to know, thanks for the link too. I’ve always thought the swirl predated Spitfire and was appropriated from something but not sure. Either way, love that design.

The Swirl stuff is taken from Op Art of the 60's.  I actually passed up a book at a bookstore a few years ago that had the "swirl" in it, and I always wish I had picked it up.

Hah I haven’t hid that I’m from Orange County originally, specifically Mission Viejo.

Republicanism was a touch more innocuous in the 90s than it is now, so everyone seemed a lot more mellow and I got some good lefty-indoctrination from the nuns in HS, so I never really view that place as nuts as common perception exists.    The more right leaning people I know moved to Arizona because it’s getting purple around there

I liked these graphics as well and you can tell time went in them.
It even fit the brandname because they felt kind of "nostalgic" in a way.

So I'd skate it, even with the horrible logo on there.

The new series look like something you'd get from a "designer" in his forties (with absolutely no affiliation to skating) that was asked to design "something cool for skate kids".

This is the most generic crap I've ever seen. Even worse than Plan B and Disorder.
