Underrated ripper appreciation
« on: June 30, 2022, 02:52:04 AM »
Simple concept - pick someone underappreciated and appreciate them. I'll kick it off with a killer part from a dude who will hopefully blow up when his Zero footy starts dropping.. Ben Havran

He has last part at 7:15. Tons more stuff on the gram but I just wanted to give people an idea of how good this dude is. He's definitely good enough to be pro and he has great trick/spot selection and style.

I wish his part was isolated to its own video on YouTube (starts at 0:41 seconds) but I really feel like Kirby is underrated (or at least overlooked).  He kind of gets lost in the mix on that team with the Jamie Foys and Pedro Delfinos of the world (and some of the gnar dudes like Figgy and T-Funk on Baker) but Kirby has been steady dropping hammers for years and skates a little different than some of those guys with a little more unique approach.  I also like that he seems pretty self-deprecating.  I remember watching one of those SLS unsanctioned things during quarantine and he did some of the sickest skating without seeming like he was taking it that serious.  Anyway, it’s not even the style of skating that I’m typically into but shoutout to Kirby.

Ben Krahn, he made the music for this part too and it's so good.

Danny brady, always enjoyed the footage he put out. One of my favorites..

The line from 0:37 to 0:47 is eye candy.

I'm digging all these but yeah Ben Krahn is a perfect example of what I was hoping for with this thread.

Actually I think like half the dudes who have been on blood wizard could qualify haha. Their video parts are always really good, I don't usually rewatch full lengths end to end but I have with The Occult more than once.

another good example is 5boro,, I think they’re much like the “blood wizard” reference you made, a lot of the guys that have rode for 5boro have been criminally underrated IMO…

Brad McClain is the best person i've ever seen skate in real life. So comfortable on a board. Not sure what happened to him, i kept waiting for him to blow up but maybe because he's just a park ripper it never really took off for him.

Glad to see the bent krahn  in here. Definitely not enough footy of him.
Donovan Rice needs way more coverage than he gets. He’s always ripped and has a rad style on top of that.

He's my second choice after Havran. I live in the burgh so I've seen and attempted to skate some of the same shit and it's bonkers what he does.

There's a hill here that like gets closed in winter because the plow trucks can't safely make it down. It's also crusty as shit and very easy to get killed at the intersection even with spotters. Naturally, there's a clip of Kyle hitting like a dozen perfect switch tres in a row while he's bombing part of it.

Truly have no idea what made me think of this but I remember being stoked on this guy’s skating and some of his fits in magazines way back in the day.  Not from the U.K. so I’m not sure what his reputation or career arc was…

Great find @funeral_tuxedo

Didn’t know he had anything more than Rubbish Heap.

While I’m here I’ll throw one in. Ben Gore. Yeah, everyone knows he’s good and all, but he has been consistently good for 15 years. And in San Fran pretty much the whole time. I saw him in SF on his bike and the guy is in real good shape. Looks like an athlete. Plus he may have the best underground sponsor list in the game (Magenta/Loophole/State). Let’s give it up for Ben Gore everyone.

Cool enough to have a scumco guest board pre-pandemic too. That's a nice little feather in the underground support cap.
