What a hilarious question. Had to look him up. Seems like he was once too weak to flip his board on flat, so he started flipping stuff off drops/stairs for more time - but never grew out of it.

I had this mentality when I was 12 of 13, kickflipped off something before I could do it on flat because I was a weakling.

Yeah it's a rare genetic condition known as "97 pound weakling".... There is hope though.

Yeah, that's how his skating struck me too. For the ridiculously hard flip tricks he does and even the more simple ones, the way he executes them makes his lands look like flukes and not in a good way.

I'm not going to go back and watch his parts to check but I think he has the classic carpet board/trampoline board problem where they don't pop that tail and just hoof the shit out of the board and land on it again. Not a classic pop flick catch land

I actually watched a video where he explains his reasoning and you're not gonna believe how ridiculous it is:

He once accidentally stepped off the tail of his board and fell, so now he puts his foot as close to the bolts as possible.
I wouldn't have any pop either if I'd use his weird as fuck foot stance.

The source is this video, or part 2 or 3 of it. I really don't want to watch dan corrigan in order to confirm which one it is.

some of his earliest YouTube videos are of him skating an ankle high flat bar in his driveway, but he was doing some pretty crazy technical tricks on it. during his formative skateboarding years he had no reason to develop the technique to get onto or over anything with any legitimate height.

99% sure this is why he skates the way he does.

Respect to Jeff for doing his own thing, but he still looks awful on a skateboard and probably can't kickflip a parking block.

I saw your mom do a ollie to cooch drop straight down the big black pole, it was gnarly. she defiantly shut that shit down

Is lack of awareness a medical condition?

I get that not everyone “gets it” in relation to skateboarding but this dude has no fucking clue.

Oof though, what a douche of an interviewer and what a way to do flip tricks...
Oh, the places you'll go.

I get it to a degree, I avoided boardslides for nearly a year after credit-carding myself badly on one. However, there's almost always a chance of your back foot slipping off no matter what you're doing.

I wouldn’t care so much if he wasn’t an insufferable, awkward douche. Guy’s social graces are on par with his skating, flaccid as fuck

I’m guessing this might be an unpopular opinion around here but I like jeff, he definitely has a different (sometimes obscure) way of looking at things, I like the way he skates, it’s different than the norm but I think it’s pretty enjoyable to watch and it’s refreshing imo that he does things his own unique way….I talk to Jeff every now and then and he’s a good dude imo.. He’s just dosent have your standard skateboarder personality I guess,,but he’s always came off as a chill dude to me.

Watched the video, the answer to the og question is mental retardation.  No further research necessary.  This guy should never have progressed past the depths of youtube obscurity.  I suppose our morbid curiosity is to blame. We must do better collectively. Power to the people.
