Camera bags?
« on: August 02, 2022, 02:43:30 AM »
Hello fellow slappers with cameras, the subject kind of says it all.  I recently took the plunge and bought a camera. I did the good old search and I may not be the best searcher, but I couldn't find anything recent or much about bags in general. I previewed this post because I'm a monster and out showed similar posts, so Mods, feel free to can this and point me in the proper direction.

So now I have a DSLR and of course am antsy to mess around with it, but it wasn't exactly cheap.  Between watching endless youtube videos to pick a camera that would suit me, buying said camera, and now relearning how a decent camera works, .  That being said I am overwhelmed and would like some info on camera bags, and would rather hear from slap then watch some more goddamn youtube videos.

So, what do you have?  Do you like what you got, as in what's the good and bad, maybe even ugly?

Do you have any recommendations?

Is there an apex bag you've always wanted? As in if you had the money, or a time machine, or you knew a guy who knew a guy, what would you get?

It felt weird typing camera bags so many times so apologies, it just feels a little odd.

Camera bags.

Thanks slap peoples.

I've used this bag for prob 10 years now, no complaints:

https://www.camerafarm.com.au/products/95024/Camera_Bags_/Naneu_Pro/662610.asp

I'm sure I chose it for no other reason than it was the best looking backpack-style bag at the local camera shop at the time.

Beyond that, I personally would suggest a backpack-style over any other style as it's the easiest to transport, especially if you're skating/carrying other things.

Hope that's useful.

Allen.

Thats totally useful, it sounds perfect, I was leaning towards a diaper bag to roll incognito, but a camera backpack is something I would never have thought of, I'll send a gnar your way when I figure out how.

I think you need SLAP Pal status for that.

This. I wouldnt bother trying anything else. Even kept my vx1000 safe during a particularly nasty unintentional hill bomb crash

Lowepro Protactic 450 AW. Very customisable and comfortable. Hands down the best backpack I've had.

@lowerfieldfirst

The backpack came in the mail today, holy shit that thing is nice.  I might get accused of stolen valor some tacticool idiot, I can live with that shit, but apparently I need to buy more accessories for the camera.

Money down!

Cheers,

I've got a Lowepro Pro Runner 350 AW ii

https://www.lowepro.com/global/pro-runner-bp-350-aw-ii-lp36874-pww/

Lowepro bags are great quality and used to be and may still be, the industry standard.

You probably don't need a big one like this if you've just bought your first camera but I would definitely recommend there bags.

If possible, I would recommend going into a camera shop to have a look at one in the flesh so you've got an idea of weight, size etc and then be a dodgy bastard like me and buy one online which is much cheaper than in the shop.

I have a bag from Chrome. It’s great

I have the Chrome Industries Niko camera bag. It’s more water resistant with a tarp lining than waterproof. It also has two straps on the back to carry a filming board in addition to your regular setup

https://www.chromeindustries.com/product/niko-camera-backpack/BG-236.html?dwvar_BG-236_color=ALLB&dwvar_BG-236_size=NA&cgid=camera_bags

Camera sits in the top flip up section while another lens, flash, and camera accessories sit inside the main section of the bag. I’m not claiming to be a filmer or photographer though. I’m just some dude that loves skating and can sort of film/shoot it too

Got this backpack on sale a few years ago, though any bag that fully opens and has enough pockets for your accessories should suffice

Been running this insert in that bag to pack two GH5 cameras + lenses and mics

Will be upgrading to this insert for even more storage within that backpack

Incase Pro backpack has no real flare but it’s the one I still use to this day. My only gripe about the bag was if it got heavy that it didn’t have a waist strap. I took mine to Europe and it did wonders but it always killed my back after a while. Aside from that, it helps 3 lenses, camera body, filters, laptop and tripod no prob.
