Are footprint insoles worth it?
« on: August 13, 2022, 03:00:35 PM »
I bought some last resorts and have been wanting to change the insoles, I was looking at footprint insoles but £25 seems like a lot when I could just use vans pop cush. The heel on the vans is thick af so they won't fit well so I'm unsure what to try. For the people that have had them, how was your experience with footprint insoles and which ones did you get? Are they worth the money and do they actually reduce all impact like they show with the bowling ball demos

I've skated the gamechangers and kingfoam. Yes, they actually work as advertised, however, they are pricey and Joey has turned into bit of a kook these days.

I think Footprints suck. They're generic Chinese insoles with graphics on them. Any decent aftermarket high density foam insole with arch and heel support is better.

Absolutely worth it. Been riding them since you had to inject water into them to activate them. I haven’t had a heel bruise in ten years. Joey sucks but the insoles are leagues and leagues better than anything else out there.

Holy shit, I totally forgot about having to inject water!

Finding the right one, absolutely. I’ve had Kingfoams on ice since buying a pair of Vincent Alvarez ones years back.

Got a pair of gamechangers I was sent by mistake in a pair of vulcs and I get a little sore. Kingfoams in the same shoe and it’s better.

Find your fit and you could be happy

For some people I can see it being worth it and in some shoes I’ve really enjoyed them. I’ve gotten the moldable ones from both FP and remind and I’ll run them from time to time. Sign up for their email lists because both company’s do decent sales periodically

The point of aftermarket insoles is to support the structure of the foot better and use a better foam for impact protection. The heat molding they use doesn't do that because you walk around when it's soft and all it does is mold to the way your foot is not the way it should be supported. This was a fad a while back in cycling and running orthotics.

theyre really good, esp. if you're set it and forget it about foot health which most people who arent long distance cyclists are
Regular stance is a mental disorder defined by the DSM-5

Since that was a jab at my single example let's just take running and basketball shoes for example- people that need aftermarket orthotics for impact protection don't rely on cheap oven bake memory foam. It doesn't support the foot, doesn't do anything a normal high density foam won't.

But if you'd rather support Joey for placebo effect than spending a tad more on something useful go for it. Confirmation bias is a helluva thing.

they works well, but don't buy flat series, won't last more than 6 months, they broke down like sponge or sth.

elite series have higher density can easily run more than a year

just saved my heel last week

They’re shit. They don’t hold their shape and crack in 6 months (game changers). I was suss a few years ago in here with all the low post dudes raving about them in every thread. Bodgy vibes.

^^ That's the answer. Save your money for something better - there are a lot of more suitable options from non-skate brands. Footprints are a gimmick product.

What’s a better alternative to the footprints for skating?

There’s so many insoles out there, it’s hard to know which are actually worth buying.

any recommendations for insoles designed for flat arches? I've used the FP Gamechanger Custom Orthotics (I liked them, but they eventually cracked/collapsed after 3-4 pairs of shoes) and the Kingfoam Orthotics (not as comfy as gamechangers, but they seemed to be more durable and absorbed impact better)

Current shoes rotation: Vans (halfcab/crockett high) with stock popcush or Nike SB blazers with aftermarket insoles

Most will say that if you have flat feet, to get some minimal arch support in there so perhaps you just need [skate] shoes that have good arch support?

NB1010 comes to mind

Do you where specific non-skate shoes for your dailies/chillers?

I'm open to trying out the NB1010 eventually, but rn I got too many skate shoes to burn through (several pairs of crocketts, blazers, and dunks) and I typically skate vulcs

My chillers vary, but current rotation are birkenstocks, LRAB vm001, NB 990v3 and dunks
