8.6 deck trucks
« on: September 11, 2022, 07:37:02 AM »
Do you prefer 8.5 or 8.75 trucks on a 8.6 deck? I have been using 159 indy hollows on a milton deck. Feels good but I have been thinking about putting ace 55s on it.

First post here - I just got a Russell VX Horseman - same 8.6” shape Baekkel and Milton has had boards put on - for my 35th bday. Im putting it on 159s.
159s should basically work with everything from 8.5-9, right?
I wouldn’t bother with new trucks, I’d just get a bigger or smaller board next time, to get a different feel.
Lefty has 159s on a much smaller 8.5, and it’s obviously working really well for him.

imo 149s are absolutely perfect on 8.6". the nut will sit perfectly flush with the board when you stand it on its side instead of being slightly skewed towards the wheel. the trucks measure where the wheel will line up with the board, not with the axle / nut.

I prefer 149s. Both Indy and thunder, but much more thunder in recent years altho maybe more Indy total. I think I just really like 149s tho I'd probably ride them on boards all the way up to 9.25 over 169s.

Just got the rest of the stuff to finish this setup. I have the same exact shape creature board you do.
The 159s line up perfectly, and it’s dead centre when stood in primo.

The creature setup looks sick.

Thanks man!

I have an 8.6 Creature Bækkel board on Indy 159s, and it's been great, but after spending some time on an 8.25 I set up on 144s recently, and enjoying the more nimble feel, I'm thinking about downsizing to 149s on my 8.6 deck to see it if livens it up some.

Definitely 149s for me too

159 are the best for boards over 8.25, so with the 8.6 will work like a charm. It also depends on your style, if you like to do lots of flip tricks/want a more nimble board get 149; if you want extra stability and extra grind space go with 159 (they will also work better in transition)

Haha, no problem.
I’ve tried taking a few more from different perspectives. You can’t see the wheels at all from the top, but if you lean some you can see the nuts somewhat.
The nuts stick out maybe 2-3 mm on each side, but the wheels line up 100%
Feels like magic carpet, but isn’t. It’s definitely not hot rodding.

I ended up doing this and set up a second 8.6 Bækkel board I had in the stack on Indy forged hollow 149s. So now I have two 8.6 decks to compare side-by-side; one on Indy FH 159s and the other on Indy FH 149s. I've only spent a few hours on the 149 setup so far, but it does feel a little lighter and more nimble. I think I might prefer the 149 setup. Quite similar at the end of the day though, and all my tricks are newb level at best. I'll probably keep using the 159 setup for transition at the park with 101a wheels, and the 149 setup with Dragons for riding around the street. The madness of it all.

I threw on some standard thunder 149’s on my milton deck. I tried 159 hollows and venture hollows previously. I definitely like the feel of the 149’s better.
