What's your favorite or go-to?

My favorite at home is a classic daiquiri, but my go-to at a bar is usually just a gin and tonic because it's cheap and hard to fuck up.

My daiquiri recipe is 2 ounces white rum (Probitas), 1 ounce fresh lime juice and a half ounce homemade simple syrup, sometimes 3/4 ounce if i want it sweeter.

Cheers.

Negronis are my go to for sure.  I love drinks that taste like weird bitter pieces of shit.  Or a peaty scotch that tastes like you're consuming and entire bon fire

Go to for most places is a dark and stormy. Hard to fuck up

If i know they've got an old menu, brandy Alexander is always a winning choice. She goes down easy

Favorite summer drink is an aperol spritz

I do a gin and tonic but cut the tonic 50/50 with sparkling water… too sweet otherwise. With lemon.

I like gimlets too, they're like a gin daiquiri. Although I find with gin that I have to drink it quickly while it's ice cold, otherwise the gin starts to taste too strong.

Anyone fuck with pina coladas? I make a mean one. Home-made maraschino cherries on top too.

+1 for aperol spritz in the summer
Love me a good gin tonic or a London mule.
During the first lockdown I made cocktails non stop.

Finally got a bottle of James May's gin so I've been on Gin and Tonics.
It's really good.

Normally a beer guy, stouts in the winter, pilsners in the summer.

Old fashioned, whiskey sour, gin and tonic. I'm pretty boring. I went through a short phase trying to make fancy drinks a few years back. Blackberry mint bourbon thing was kind of nice in the summer but I just went back to pouring straight liquor down my stupid face as always. Guess I am impatient like that.

Old Fashion.

If I'm in Wisconsin I'll have some Brandy Sweets.

worked as a cocktail bartender for years in some fancy and hipster joints. Shit's are pretty expensive in most north american cities. I definitely won't spend 15- 20$ on a drink if I think the bartender is a hack. Fresh citrus makes all the difference in any sour. Pretty criminal to charge top dollar for a drink that tastes like concentrate lime. It's crazy how many latin style bars pushing cocktails end up just using the concentrate. I've had barbacks that can juice 6 L lime juice in like 45 min. probably better to stick to beer

Yeah it's hard to want to go out to a cocktail bar when there's a good chance they won't even use fresh citrus or rum other than Bacardi, but they'll still charge you $15 a drink.

Egg white cocktails can often be the absolute best. Although last time I had one at a local distillery the drink smelt like straight up bird. No other way to describe it other than just pure bird smell.  Will still try more in the future tho

As I've gotten older I can feel myself aging out of the super sugary cocktails. I was also a bartender for many years so seeing how much sugar goes into a cocktail can kinda turn you off to them.

I do however love a properly made rum runner, which is a south Florida staple. My ex girlfriend from Colorado came and visited me years ago and we went out to a barrier Island to spend the day. She had never heard of a rum runner before, but ended up loving them.

Light rum, dark rum, OJ, pineapple juice, banana liqueur, blackberry liqueur, grenadine, a couple slices of orange and cherries and it's fucking DELICIOUS. The trick is to balance the two liqueurs as best as possible. Those liqueurs can make them extremely sweet. If you make it the right way it tastes like candy. 2 of them will get you smashed.

My favorite drink to make and turn people on to as a bartender was the blue motorcycle. It's basically a long island except you use blue curacao and sprite instead of triple sec and coke.

Never heard it called that, but that's an AMF around my parts. I've also had raspberry (maybe cranberry?) AMFs which are really good too. Not sure what is substituted for the blue curacao, but they're great.
