I feel like the narrative they presented was a little misleading…that they were puppets of the music industry early in their careers but they found their true fanbase in the 90’s when given more creative freedom.
While this is partially true, Beastie Boys fans always appreciated them for their combination of simple whiteboy raps, loose flows, and experimental instrumentals. It’s just Def Jam ditched “Run DMC, but white” when hip hop got more black power and more gangsta around 1990, while their later deals let them be eclectic.
I dunno, I guess I feel like they should’ve just talked about Hello Nasty longer, than “boo hoo Rick Rubin put us in durags” lol.
