Was SLS Vegas 22 so shit that...
« on: October 09, 2022, 01:17:07 AM »
... Yuto and Suciu didn't even bother with prelims? I know we all pretend not to care and then secretly watch anyways and judging from the Youtube comments I'm not alone with the feeling that this could be the worst SLS ever. Feels like one of those Unsanctioned Covid events, no crowd, tiny ass shit course. I would've expected that Vegas of all places could bring in a huge crowd. Why this crap UFC mashup? Last minute cancelation of original location? Bad presales? Anybody got the insider intel?

I wanna say they changed the dates from what was originally posted in the beginning of the season and I believe it was invite only no publicly released tickets. So could’ve been low sales or cancellation of event space like you suggested. Also last year they advertised a Miami stop and it never happened, seems like the quietly deleted mentions of it and didn’t specify why. Yuto was there in the crowd chillin with Dyrdek. Yuto is a certified super star now I feel like he just does whatever he feels like whenever. He skipped most of the contests last year after the gold medal.

I've said before I don't see sls still being a thing after the next Olympics (if it even lasts that long). I think covid really fucked it plus X games and dew tour only seem to do one a year at the same parks too. If it follows this trend I can see any skater that doesn't care about the Olympics not even bothering with it anymore. Can't find anywhere that says how much they win either but I think a few years ago it was down to like 25 instead of the original 250 grand.
(Also commented this elsewhere) funny seeing Dyrdek there as it was the total opposite of everything he created. Wonder what he was thinking.

Pretty sure Yuto and Suciu were hurt. Hyped for Braden Hoban taking the podium

It'd be cool if they did an actual STREET event - i get that it wouldn't appeal to a lot of people. but i don't know, same event format just at like macba or some other multi-obstacle/optional streetscape.

i wasn't that offended by the small course.

i think they should ban a few trixx - bigspin boardslide and bigger flips {on their own or into anything}.

either way don't really care. i always get baked and watch them regardless of how shit they are.

anyone got any idea why it was held in that venue? Tiny venue, tiny course, seems insane.

Hoban is insane, dudes gonna do great things, can’t wait for 28 year old millionaire Braden.

At first wasn’t a big fan of Braden but man he’s so undeniably good and I’m loving his style . Kickflip front nosegrind was done so casually meanwhile Tommy Fynn was just tryna huck so hard and fast. Kick back noseblunt would have been too ridiculous

All good questions, I have no answers, you’ll have to ask Rothdigga.

Best part of the prelims was seeing inside the energy drink sponsor massage tent.

Masseuses wear blue surgical gloves now.? What kind of fucked up shit is that.?!

there was lots to take in here but i still enjoyed watching. course was about the size of shane oniells back yard (possible smaller). nobody skated well aside from jolson and the tre flip guy. tbh it seems crazy to hold an event like that in vegas and not sell tickets. and why are they drinking out of the tiny complimentary water bottles i get at the honda dealership?

Also, almost everyone with an energy drink sponsor drinking the bottles of water almost like on NFL sidelines where the Gatorade bottles are filled with water.

Take the money, I guess, or be real and say you’d never drink that shit let alone before or during a contest. I made that mistake once, I looked like a coked up autistic hyped up grom bouncing around the course not knowing my head from my ass.

They couldn't risk somebody putting a full sized water bottle down somewhere on the course and people being able to tell the rails and hubbas were only the same height.

Bummed that Hoban didn't win. He's crazy consistent for not being one of those contest vets. Jagger chewing his gum like that is an obvious power play. The head cow is always grazing...

Worst course so far. Why are they trying to murder skaters? Putting horizontal bars at the bottom of stair sets adds nothing to the viewer experience. I’m not a fucking football fan, I’m not hoping for injuries

I actually liked that the course was different. Looks like it would be fun to skate for a bit. But I agree, why add the horizontal bars on all of the rails? Turns an already painful sacking into a death sentence.

The welds looked kinda shitty wouldn't be surprised if the handrails needed the horizontal bars for support. As far as the park looking fun I guess yeah I could probably actually skate a lot of it where the old sls parks I couldn't do much of anything but is that what is good about a (what's meant to be a top) pro contest?

It was better than the sleeveless crop top Harley Davidson tee he wore during warmups.

One thing I like about this year is the bigger emphasis on run scores.  And this type of course prevented the best trick from just being a jam on the biggest rail.
