Slap had been saying IC was garbage from the jump. No one cared. Thrasher was backing them. So were they cool because we all seem to love Thrasher? Not until GH started bashing them did everyone start realizing how awful they are and now we see the company effectively folding.

GH has also been bashing IC/Mikey Alfred for a long time too, this new universal hate for IC has more to do with Mikey Alfred going full Kanye West lately than everyone mindlessly hanging on GH's words. And he's not the only person talking about it. The riders themselves are speaking out now.

Look, I like GH, I watch his videos, but this claim that he's the "king of skate media" is ridiculous. And why does it have to be a competition? Why can't Thrasher and GH both exist? They aren't even comparable. Thrasher is still a very successful magazine read regularly by plenty actual core skaters.
I know hanging out here too much can make it seem like basically every company in skateboarding is trash and failing, but try to keep in perspective that the Slap message boards consists of like 20 jaded dudes who absolutely do not represent skateboarding as a culture at large.

Also, everyone is sleeping on Closer magazine. It's brilliant and deserves more shine.

Yes they can both exist. Yes they can both be “successful” (guess that depends on what you consider successful - seems like simply existing or having “reach” is your threshold). Just like Zumiez and Orchard can both exist and be successful. But no, Thrasher doesn’t determine what is cool anymore in skateboarding.

I was not observing skateboarding as closely for a time due to professional reaseons and went back into it for real four years ago... thrasher seemed weird and out of date when I first picked up an issue again and I just use them as a video outlet for some parts and some series ("out there" etc.). Feel like others have a better sense of whats interesting, funny or on the horizon for skating – at least to me.

I've slowly started moving in FreeSkateMags direction for a while now. I really enjoy the coverage of the Euro skate scene. That is not to say that I don't check out almost everything that Thrasher puts out, but it just doesn't have the same magic for me that it once did. Also really enjoy the followed pieces that Place puts out as well.

Always annoyed me seeing certain publications  (Free Skate Mag) direct traffic to their website daily to view a video that has absolutely nothing to do with them. If your model to get clicks is based on this, what's the point? There's no integrity.

Brian's Habitat part being on Free may have something a little to do with the big lawsuit that's currently being pursued against Thrasher due to the whole Black Rock incident. Same reason why Right Here For Pablo wasn't branded as a a GX video and why there was 'key omissions' from the video.

Nothing wrong with enjoying Little Caesars. Here’s what is wrong though

When I step into the pizza party I will start berating everyone for eating it and I will tell you about the mom and pop shop that’s better. (Admittedly not a nice thing to do, but I have a passion for small business.) But instead of everyone being like yeah man you’re kinda right but it still tastes decent and gets us full (diffuse the situation, no one wants a full blown argument at the pizza party), here’s what everyone does:
