it rained yesterday, and i went skating.

if it's a massive downpour, the sessions are much shorter, so i search for sheltered spots (parking garages, under bridge overpasses, outdoor hallways / corridors at schools)

i just don't skate. i have a physically demanding job so it's not worth it to me to fall off and hurt myself and then be out of work.

soft wheels. 78a to 82a can handle a good amount of speed, but you'll want to have skated them a bit to rough up the surface for traction.

it's not fool proof, some surfaces are always going to be too slick once they are wet. metal ramps / graffitied skateparks / painted ground.

if any wheel manufacturers are lurking this thread, i'd gladly purchase something like these harfang longboard rain wheels in a smaller size (54-58mm). they are 77a, so they probably do quite well.

i don't have a solid solution for preventing waterlogged boards. if that's a concern, build two completes. one for dry skating, one for wet.

lib tech had these "unbreakable" boards in the late 90s which may have been a combination of fiberglass and wood. that might help prevent a waterlogged board from losing its pop.

i've heard of people using paint sealant to try and prevent water damage.

ceramic bearings don't rust. same with titanium trucks (keep those axles clean).

in heavy rain, griptape with a lower grit rating will keep you from slipping off the board. strips of strategically placed low grit grip tape mixed with normal grip will give you traction, and still allow you to do ollies, flip tricks, etc. kinda like how snowboards have stomp pads.

I can't think of any other spot here other than this dank piss-soaked covered area at a school. We don't have parking garages here in bumpkin town, unfortunately.

Getting caught slipping by the rain on the main rides the worst.

I invested in some shit today. Hopefully it leads to something. I really need to stop being a tool bag to myself.

I need to eat more and skate less

Would gripping your deck with very thin lines of griptape lead to more grip in wet conditions? Like imagine the pattern on shoe soles as grip stripes. Maybe even bigger gaps between stripes? I really don't know

i dont even have parking garages, i have like little pavillion type joints. so you arent protected from the wind at all

i just got this dude somewhat locally who makes rails to make me a portable slappy curb type thing. his actual job is like welding handrails for businesses and shit, and he is a sick skater too. so he has this on the side. he is making it custom length for me so it will fit in the back of my Corolla trunk without needing to put the seats down.

skated my local in absolutely biblical level rain today. lasted an hour before admitting i was being moronic. ]

at one point i landed a trick and did an early-years-rick-mccrank style look back only to see my board had a huge double wake issuing out from behind it, swoshing its way across the whole park.

Vancouver does this thing where it mists/spits rain and you think you can go out in it and skate - but 20 mins later your board is soaked and you can't pop your tricks. Somehow your clothes are dry and you don't think it's raining because you don't feel droplets, but it is..

Still trying to figure out this PNW rainforest weather shit

Maybe I need a rain board!
