I acknowledge the waste in skateboarding and do my best not to waste shit.  I try to run all my equipment into the ground before replacing it.  Burning up a few decks and 2 pairs of shoes a year isn't even remotely close to the gas, tires, oil, etc from racing.

Shipping is the real killer.   I think wood isn’t waste because like with Christmas trees, it can be ecologically healthy if farmed in the right way

It's like sls. If it goes well it's the best but more often than not it just completely falls apart.
Gotta add on the topic of Aus sport soccer fukn sucks now. Aus has had too many years of being kinda ok at it and now everyone involved has their heads stuck so far up their own ass's. Watch a game now and in 97 minutes there's 3 attempts at goal none on target and everyone can't stop saying enough positive bullshit about beautiful play etc

I have heard an argument that racing pushes the envelope of what can be accomplished by the cars, which then trickles down into more efficient and better consumer vehicles.

Take F1 regulations as an example.  In the early 2000s they used about 200kg of gas.  In 2013 they used about 160kg of gas per race.  Now they are down to 100kg, and in 2026 they are aiming for 70kg.  That's cutting the fuel usage by more than 2/3.  70kg is about 26 gallons, which is an absolute drop in the bucket compared to the fuel used by the spectators to get to the event - or any live event, be it a concert, street league, or the X-Games.

American football is absolutely awful, just the most boring and action-free three hours you are ever going to waste. It has the worst owners (that’s really saying something), the most arbitrary and idiotic set of rules, and the game itself moves at a snail’s pace. They even give teams more points so that it looks like it’s a game with a lot of scoring. It’s really bad, and has gotten dramatically worse and the league has come to dominate over all others sports within the United States.
