Well umm, Lee Perry created dub. But yeah King Tubby and Scientist are incredible masters of the craft.

Lee Perry did not create dub, it was "created" when a sound system operator named Ruddy Redwood went to Treasure Isle to have some acetates cut for his sound and the engineer accidentally left the vocals off one. He played the vocal-less one at a dance later that night and the crowd went wild, after that he started asking for more acetates without out the vocals, thus the birth of the version.  You would also be remiss to not mention Prince(King)Jammy, Prine Philip Smart, Errol Thompson and Sylvan Morris as super skilled dub engineers.

Well he certainly did release the first dub album 'Blackboad Jugle Dub" with King Tubby and had been experimenting with it long before then. Lets argue about it. I do appreciate your knowledge.

Java Java Java Java enginered by Errol Thompson and Herman Chin Loy came out before Blackboard Jungle Dub and is generally credited as the first dub album.  Not trying to be a dick but if you are going to correct someone else in the first place you should have your facts straight, nothing personal.  I'm a huge Reggae nerd and an old one at that so there's that as well.

determining the "first dub LP" is a bit of a red herring though because people had been releasing "dub" on 45 for 5 years or so by then

it evolved from just instrumental versions of vocal tracks to DJs toasting on top to little sprinkles of sound effects to full-blown echo/delay-laden mixing console studio productions

Could honestly split hairs/dork out endlessly but yeah versions were happening for 6 years prior to the release of the first dub lps(which were a response/way to further cash in on dub's popularity and also helped to expand reggae's audience even further).

Had a roommate who was big into reggae and dub and took me always to those Soundsystem nights. I came more from dnb and dubstep so i enjoyed all those foundation sounds and showed him the modern takes like gorgon sound, dubkasm

Love Dub. Thanks to older bandmates, I was introduced to it at a relatively young age. It's one of the most psychedelic genres out there. I really like the legends mentioned, but no one's mentioned my personal favorite, SCIENTIST. His "Rids the World of the Curse of the Vampires" is so good, not to mention several other albums. There's great UK Dub stuff too like Linton Kwesi Johnson, Mikey Dread, Mad Professor/Ranking Ann, and last but not least, Dennis "Blackbeard" Bovell; he gets extra points for producing the Saâda Bonaire stuff and Post-Punk classics like The Pop Group's "Y" and The Slits' "Cut". There's also the On-U Sound label, which went all sorts of different ways with Dub.

Have to agree with all the people being (mildly) underwhelmed by the design decision so far, that being said, im not a fan of the aesthetics I associate with his other companies as well (i.e., hardies). Not my cup of tea, but I guess kids will love it.
