I hate to contribute to yet another SOTY thread, but why do people keep bringing up Phelps? He was neither the founder of Thrasher nor the creator of Skate of the Year. Further, he is dead, it's not up to the current editor to pull out a Ouija Board and channel what he would want from beyond the grave.

True he wasn’t the founder or creator but it seems like he steered the ship and made the call ultimately. T funk is the most hellride of them all plus he’s destroying SF. Can’t shake the image of Phelps in his Ray bans standing up there with the SOTY, but you right it’s the new editors choice.

To be fair Bobby Dekeyzer had the best video part of 2022 and he’s not even on the list…and frankly there is some laughable ones on that made it on there. Let’s be real there are really only 4 real SOTY contenders anyway the rest is just giving credit where it’s due and leaving Bobby off was blatant disrespect.

Yeah, he's a notable omission. But, while it's gotten easier over the years to maintain a good pro career while not living in California or New York, living in Toronto will get skaters slept on even with top sponsors. Both Wade and Bobby had years worthy of atleast a mention even if they weren't serious contenders to win it.

Nyjah had a level head about the whole thing on Steve-O's podcast when asked directly about it and was basically like "I'm still young and motivated so I don't really care what happens this year, there's always next year."
