In 8th grade got a real nice Mossimo button up and was pretty psyched until I found out Mossimo also made the uniforms for McDonald's and many other shitty jobs.

When I first started skating in the early 90s I listened to punkrock and therefore didn’t like Stussy, which I associated with hip hop due to those ads. Later I got to enjoy rap and embraced hip hop gear but then found Stussy lame/fake compared to « dope » brands like Pelle Pelle, Ecko, Rigo, Helly Hansen and whatever else was considered cool back then.

Fun fact: Stüssy is a traditional and to my ears really backwards sounding Swiss name and I was always somehow puzzled how such a brand could be successful  in street wear.

Tl;dr I was never a fan.

Jürgen Teller did some cool campaigns with A-Ron in the late 90’s on there second wave. The clothes were decent too. That’s when they had a pretty cool skate programme that Robbie Jeffers was running - Hug, SJ, AVE.

I’m old now but it seems a bit rehashed and uninspiring these days.

I always thought Stussy was kind of lame growing up.

It's really changed its direction and refined its image recently, and quite successfully too. The art direction and product now is quite impressive...they have the big logo staples but come out with plenty of good pants, knit wear etc. They've pulled from more commercial stores to focus on places like "cooler" fashion retailers and skate shops and been colabing with the likes of Our Legacy workshop and Denim Tears too.

Walked past some of the skate-adjacent clothng brand shops in London this afternoon. School holidays and lots of tourists about.

At Palace: no queue, at Supreme: 10 people queuing, at Stussy over 50 queuing to get in to buy whatever it is they want to buy.

Never seen it that busy before. Is there some reason this old person doesn't know about for why the young people are flocking to Stussy? Is it down to Lance Mountain skating to Lush in the latest video?

want to say something positive - that they have at least some legacy in surf / street ware since the 80s.
But then your post make me check out there website... and there is absolutely NO reason to wait in queue for that stuff.

At least i have some hope in humanity that there is no queue in front of Palace anymore. Now UK friends stop worshipping Supreme. use the christmas season to spend time with your loved ones - dont waste your resources on pseudo status symbols.

Yep, you nailed it. I've still got (and rock) some windbreakers from way back mid 90s - excellent quality and details. Hopefully they've come full circle.
