I always thought the pronunciation of the last name was more controversial. Apparently its "Rohley", but Rowley like an animal's growl sounds so much better.

Sid vicious pronounced it wrong in sorry so the whole world pronounced it wrong

Esteemed Slap colleagues, I had the pleasure of bringing this conversation up to Geoff Rowley himself! At first he was reluctant to engage with a complete stranger, living up to his reputation, brushing aside my query with what felt like a familiar lamentation on the trappings of semantics in the Skate World. However, after disarming his reticence with a well-timed reference to Shakespeare's Shall I compare Thee to a Summer's Day, Rowley surprised me by diving into the etymology behind his name and surmising that the unique spelling pointed towards a Germanic connection.

He was having you on mate. Geoff's named after Geoff Strong; his father's favorite Liverpool player back in the day. His mother wanted to call him Willie (after Liverpool player, and Geoff's teammate, Willie Stevenson), but his father refused to have his son getting associated with a defensive midfielder, Liverpool or not.

Still, most people from his area know him as Willie. Little Willie they used to call him.

OP, there are way more important things to think about. Namely whether or not Melanie Griffith is still hot for Steve Olson after all these decades. If we could turn our attention to that, it would be much appreciated.
