HUM
« on: January 03, 2023, 02:30:24 PM »
who are my other pals who love HUM? one of the most underrated bands from the 90s who inspired some of your favorite alt and heavy riffin' bands from the 2000s and today.

Downward Is Heavenward is my favorite album of theirs but their most recent album Inlet is arguably their best work.

This is when they debuted Desert Rambler off Inlet live.

This band doesn't get enough love!

Fan at least since 411 #16 which had Stars. Iron Clad Lou and Winder might actually been in some snowboard films before this. Inlet was unbelievable when it finally just came out one day.

Hum is a little like Pavement and MBV to me.   While I enjoy their music, my personal sweet spot is the generation afterward that was influenced by them.

One of my favorite HUM clips. I loved how alpha-bro told them they need to plug directly into the board and how Stern shut him down, haha.

Giving Inlet a full listen through for the 2nd time. The lyrics to the opener, "Waves," is so psychedelic and beautifully written.

Waves of lost hope came into my head
They fill my days with sorrow
And to blow on embers left inside of me
To burn me up in tomorrow
The sunlight drips from the trees and forms in pools
I'm wading through them, oblivious and warm
Comfort then will come to no one
And stones will speak and they seek to misinform
Unwinged and flightless and difficult to see
You collect me
Replacing markers so that I can't win
They don't know of my solitary days
For the host of upturned feasting summer leaves
And spirit light beams for later stowaways
Ground will give, the heart will suffer
And the traces of mourning will lead us to the end
Where the dying landscape meets the water
And the waves of you roll over me again
Unwinged and flightless and difficult to see
You collect me
And now I see the end is near
It's true, the coast was never clear
And I don't believe in anything except
Dreams still come, but now they're slow
And in them, I am yet to go
Anywhere I haven't already been
An empty space where all is wrong
And maps to where I don't belong
And another dark path that ends, but never gives
Innocence death, was I the one?
To see the young and boiling sun
To the other side
And the wonders didn't end :)

I loved You’d Prefer an Astronaut and Downward is Heavenward. The opening riff to Dreamboat is one of my favorites

I love The riffs on “The Scientists”

Re Listening to their entire catalogue last few days. “The summoning” from Inlet has been on repeat.

Someone posted this in a Hum FB group. I haven't had a full listen of it, but so far it sounded pretty good and the audio is mixed fairly well to my 'lug holes.

If I curate one for you would you listen to it? I'd be happy to put one together. Spotify or YouTube?

Edit: I'll post it in the thread for everyone else to use too.

Heres a short playlist I threw together quickly. I didn't include anything off their first album or Electra 2000 as I'm not super familiar with those records. Really though, You'd Prefer An Astronaut, DIH, and Inlet are front to back listens through and through.

Enjoy!!!

I tripped out for a second because my name may or may not be Matt, haha. I quickly realized it's an ode to the great Mr. Talbott.

Good stuff.

New Narrow Head album finally dropped. Get there while you can! Huge homage to Deftones in their vocals on that track. Chills, baby! I got dem chills!
