He was the TM.
Always really loved his skating and his attitude towards mental health awareness.
Big respect.

Boardriders (who owned DC) amongst other brands got acquired and a shit ton of people got let go on September 1st. Last time I walked into their offices it seemed like there were 100+ desk spaces with only like 12 heads walking around. I won't be surprised to see team riders dropping from rvca or element here soon too.

Pretty sure that Frank Mare took over as TM awhile ago. Iirc John posted something along the lines of stepping down as TM and focusing more on his skating and being pro

Only feels like a year since the growing neck meme

You would think there would have been a bigger hubbub when the C from DC quits

I only found out because I saw him kinda talking shit on some old shoe collector insta something like "back when DC was for skaters" then looked at his insta and saw he had been wearing Nike's for a while. Guess it still could not be official

John of pro skating. Super nice guy, when I met him didn’t even realize who he was and was like you skate? Then he showed me his Instagram , seen the tree clip and was like damn

Hopefully he’s just hitting the sponsor refresh. Love his skating but could see him moving on. Seems odd to step back from a TM role to focus on skating then drop your sponsors not long after.

I’m hoping he just found a more fulfilling gig if he decides to completely step away from pro skating.

This is kinda dope to see.. similar to me in the way Heath Kirchart walked away too. The more I learn about John the more I appreciate him and his presence in skateboarding.
Hit a life rough patch recently and I went back and watched the Deep Rest/mental health awareness video he did with DC. I’ve been listening to the album too. It’s not music I would normally gravitate toward, but I think the intention behind it is positively affecting me.

https://jawngardner.bandcamp.com/album/deeprest-the-album

Glad he’s making these choices for himself instead of ‘wearing out his welcome.’ I wish him nothing but the best.

He and RyRey were a couple of my faves on Creature. They didn’t fit the hesh look and skated EVERYTHING and legit always looked like they were having fun while doing it.

Hope nothing but the best for him with whatever he does next in life.
