Haha, good stuff.

Forgot how many Slappers can't wait to jump on threads to cool guy everyone. What I meant to do was ask is - why is it still called the "Dylan outfit" - bridging fashion and skating isn't anything particularly new.

To me, he followed in the footsteps of people like Greco, Ellington, Dill and even Heath.

Greco’s Vans Escobars are the first skate shoe that I know of that were designed to look like a dress shoe or loafer.

So why is Dylan attributed with popularizing this mob look? As people said, he's not the first one in skateboarding to do this by a longshot. I think it’s more because skateboarding kept getting more and more mainstream as he was coming up and so more eyes were on him. That plus he’s a hot dude. But it was others before him that pioneered the fashion / model / skate connection.

I mentioned Berle and SP to counter my own argument, that not everyone dressed as an old timey mobster is doing the "Dylan cosplay". However, when it comes to Berle / SP, these two were blatantly copying Dylan because of their abrupt style change and close proximity to him or FA.

If my rep is ever an even number, please kindly throw me either a kook or a gnar in order to return me to my odd number equilibrium.

The fit is a timeless fit featured throughout movies and pop culture. It's the greaser look, obviously. Italian mobsters, Mexican gang members, the pimp in Taxi Driver. Take off Ace Ventura's Hawaiian shirt and he's dressed the same. Check out Denzel Washington in Devil in a Blue Dress. My great grandfather wore that fit, white tee tucked up high into some slacks - old man shit. Aged Chinese men in Beijing wear this exact outfit when strolling the block at sunset as if it's their pajamas.

Dylan used to dress like Arto when he was growing up around Arto and spending a lot of time with him. Then as he started hanging with Dill more, his style became more like Dill's. Dill is inspired by greasers too it's easy to tell and he was dressing like that at the time.

I love Dylan just as much as anyone and miss his elegance but that ain't his look.

Berle's abrupt switch of style to knock-off this same greaser look was embarrassing and I was also annoyed with Swan Pablo and his similar style for a long time.

Anyways. Nothing is original. Time to give up folks.

So let's make a SLAP Forum Boards skate brand and make our own boards. We've got that one guy who designed those sick graphics to help out AWS...

I'm sick of hearing about this now too, but only since you brought it up.

Edit: I agree Slap needs it own brand haha
I don’t care what anyone says, a tit mouse’s tibia is a thing of beauty.

Was going to say, he's the hottest one out of all of them so he's the most memorable. He also did it best. Dill always looked homeless and is not attractive, Dylan looked like he was walking out of an art gallery or off the stage at a show with a trail of women behind him. Of course guys idolized him the most so it's his look in your minds. Makes sense.

George Orton probably did the first frontside air.

But Tony Alva made it look good.

Whose name do you remember?
You know I thought these forums were a for skating not discussing fetishes

Also a good point, but my argument is still that Greco was the orig AND made it look good, but doesn't receive enough credit.

People need to get over the "someone stole dylan style" stuff, it's a classic and almost universal combination of clothing, the only thing is that dylan beautiful skating and body type suits very nice the super model look with ragged expensive shit, combos like that making a big impact on and off skateboarding.

Whenever this topic comes up it's very easy to tell whose cultural point of reference begins and ends strictly within skateboarding.

Technically you need cuffed jeans or a vneck t for full Dylan fit, just blue jeans and tight white t aren’t a full Dylan fit

No one ever tries to talk about Dylan with me.

I'd probably just say rip nice imps and quickly start talking about products.

I've realized that no one wants to talk about Kalis and his contributions to switch so trucks will have to do

You tryin to talk Dylan, bro?  It can be arranged.

Dylan didn't invent it, but he DID bring it to skateboarding and he perfected it.

It looked great because he was a tall, slender, beautiful dude.

I'm short, I look like a off season bodybuilder, and would look like absolute garbage in those clothes ...
