Tired of hearing about the "Dylan Outfit"
« on: January 12, 2023, 05:41:08 PM »
The fit is a timeless fit featured throughout movies and pop culture. It's the greaser look, obviously. Italian mobsters, Mexican gang members, the pimp in Taxi Driver. Take off Ace Ventura's Hawaiian shirt and he's dressed the same. Check out Denzel Washington in Devil in a Blue Dress. My great grandfather wore that fit, white tee tucked up high into some slacks - old man shit. Aged Chinese men in Beijing wear this exact outfit when strolling the block at sunset as if it's their pajamas.

Dylan used to dress like Arto when he was growing up around Arto and spending a lot of time with him. Then as he started hanging with Dill more, his style became more like Dill's. Dill is inspired by greasers too it's easy to tell and he was dressing like that at the time.

I love Dylan just as much as anyone and miss his elegance but that ain't his look.

Berle's abrupt switch of style to knock-off this same greaser look was embarrassing and I was also annoyed with Swan Pablo and his similar style for a long time.

Anyways. Nothing is original. Time to give up folks.

So let's make a SLAP Forum Boards skate brand and make our own boards. We've got that one guy who designed those sick graphics to help out AWS...

If my rep is ever an even number, please kindly throw me either a kook or a gnar in order to return me to my odd number equilibrium.

Well you’ve convinced me.

Ethan Fowler wore it before them and I’m sure it wasn’t his idea either.

of course Dylan didn't invent the look and i don't think anyone is claiming that, but nobody else really dressed like him in skateboarding, which is why in the context of skateboarding, Dylan is brought up. regardless of where he took inspiration from, he undeniably had his own thing going and he rocked the fuck out of it. not sure what your point is if you personally admit that you were annoyed with Berle and Sean Pablo adopting that same look.

He didn’t invent the look but he perfected it which is why it’s talked about.

And a Slap board brand would never work because we’d all say we’d buy someone’s pro model if they ever turned pro and then we’d never buy them

Can your next assignment be to break down the Matt Hensley fashion craze of cargos, chukkas, and chain wallets.?

Much obliged.

If your argument is that this is a timeless fit that isn’t exclusive to Dylan, why are you annoyed with Berle and Sean Pablo for adopting it?

Plenty of people in alternative scenes were doing the same look years before Dylan did it which is where he probably got it from. I'm struggling not to use the word hipster here but it was definitely already a trend in that crowd. When i was in college i mostly hung out with art school students and their uniform was like 4 hole dr martens, cuffed black jeans, plain black belts and a white band t shirt tucked in to the jeans.

I feel like in general skate and alternative culture feed off each other for fashion trends but that one definitely came through alternative culture first

Was this outfit a gimmick?
Lots of people here tend to think that heavy metal clothes are a gimmick. Are hip hop clothes a gimmick?

Feel like I probably have but don't see what the fuss is about. It's an easy way to describe a certain style of the time. You say Dylan everybody instantly pictures what you're talking about just like if you said penny or dill or trapasso or whoever
