Orion had some of the same members as Low Life and were actually a better band imo. For fans of New Order. Phenomenal stuff.

https://orionsydney.bandcamp.com/album/orion

Also when I saw low Life almost a decade ago Shogun from Royal Headache was playing guitar for them. The sydney scene is pretty incestuous like that I guess.

And yeah @Sila a lot of the guys in the modern bands are kooks irl. I can definitely attest to that. Way too cool for their own good.

What an annoying thread I know a lot of people in the more modern bands and many are certified wankers LOL
[close]
Low life are sick. Definitely one of the best bands of the past decade. I saw them shortly after they released this album when they were supporting Iceage. Their other albums are great too.

Singer is a bit of a kook though but makes good music
Totally not surprised about this, considering the slight insanity and offensiveness of some of their lyrics/themes.

I missed the Low Life x Pass~Port stuff, but that's cool that they're connected to skateboarding in some way.

Pass~Port videos have had excellent music choices (Jack O'Grady skating to Siglo XX "Individuality" especially comes to mind. Never thought I'd hear prime Belgian Coldwave in a video part).

RE: Sila - No way! People in bands are wankers?? Shocking revelation.

slowcore/indie rock
bluetile lounge basically invented the slowcore genre in australia, and are pretty unparalleled, even 20 years later. recently started releasing tracks again.

mukaizake is the band of one of the members a few years after bluetile split. super unknown but also quite good, faster and less spacey than bluetile

Nothing too obsure, but these are goood!

100% Oz classics for sure. My favorite INXS song. The Boys Next Door LP is great, especially for Birthday Party fans who might not know about their beginnings (I'm a massive fan of The Birthday Party/Boys Next Door). I love The Church and while "Electric Lash" is a great single and Seance a great album, my favorite of theirs is probably "Constant in Opal" from the Persia EP (or Remote Luxury LP here in the US). The Blurred Crusade is probably my favorite album of theirs, although they're all pretty fantastic from Of Skins and Heart to Starfish.

Big fan of Rolling Blackouts if my username doesn’t give it away.  Their debut Talk Tight is near perfect from front to back.  Not as crazy about their last couple albums but they always have a couple bangers.

The greatest Aussie band of all time though.. without a doubt.. is KING GIZZ AND THE MF LIZ WIZ.

This is pretty great scuzzy Oz Rock for sure. Never heard of them before even though I'm fairly familiar with stuff on the Au Go Go label, so good on ya. Definitely in the spirit/lineage of Scientists (also Au Go Go), Moodists, etc. Also made me think of these blokes, who were kind of the Aussie answer to The Stranglers:

Anyone down? I don't really know what's good in Australia right now so post some current stuff if you want.

Been on a Dick Diver binge again recently, haven't really felt like listening to anything else lately.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDaXVYjKJEU

Dick Diver was grand. Saw them twice here in the states years back.

Played with UV Race & Total Control. Great mates

Terry rules (members of Dick Diver/Total Control). Did an interview with Zephyr of Terry. Super nice mate.

John Sharkey III from Clockcleaner, Dark Blue & Puerto Rico Flowers resides over there.

Sleeper & Snake (more members of Terry, etc) Probably the closest thing to Dick Diver

@Mr. Kamikaze I'd never heard of Terry or Sleep & Snake before. Both of them are great. Al Montfort has been in so many interesting bands. Have you heard of Lower Plenty? Another one of his projects.

And of course he is in Straightjacket Nation, probably Australia's best hardcore band of all time

A couple of beauiful songs about canefields...

burning the canefields to stick it to the bankers

and reminiscing of the canefields of your youth.

I love the Graeme Connors song but the Go-Betweens song is just so beautiful, the way it makes you reminisce of your youth and the haunting guitar that evokes the realization that you will never have that simplicity in your life again. One of those songs that makes me get close to tears whenever I listen to it and i usually have to listen to it more than once.

Yeah. That entire Go-Betweens Before Hollywood LP is absolutely classic/essential. "Cattle and Cane" is where Grant either got on the level of or surpassed Robert as their best songwriter, depending on your preference. "Bachelor Kisses" from the next album is also a thing of lasting beauty.

I still listen to Carpathian (only with Marty on vocals, hated that Crafter stepped in for that period) weekly, and Im staring at Proms “music for the recently deceased” album hanging on my wall right now.

I think the song names etc haven’t aged that well, but when the music is that good it gets a pass from me.

Im going to see Justice for the Damned this saturday night, so obviously I have a series soft spot for that type of metalcore / mosh metel.

So good, thanks for posting this. I've been listening to this ever since you posted it. I went to a show in Sydney a few weeks ago and one of the opening bands covered Dead Letter Office, was a pleasant surprise.

Bluetile Lounge are back together and put some new stuff out recently, too:
