i too am surprised about 52s…it’s what i prefer, it’s the biggest of the small wheels, meaning i can skate them on venture lo’s or 147s. i don’t hate the way my board feels with 52s. big wheels make me so bummed/sometimes angry. the rolling over shit is nice, but i despise the added weight, and the way the board feels/reacts.
i’d assume a wheel 54ish would be good for transition, i wouldn’t know, i’m scared of not flat. doesn’t gt ride 52s? i don’t think raven rides huge wheels…
i always thought the huge wheel was a street thing, and i’ll admit to having 60mm classics more than once, most memorably for me, on an early chocolate gino with most likely tight tight tight 129s. i felt like i could ollie over anything.
i’ll always one of my skate buddies being like ‘what are those 52s!?’ with just the perfect amount of scorn/derision. and he rips everything so i had to laugh.

i mean if i’m being totally honest with myself, peak skating came on some really small wheels, pizza cutters, maybe started as 50s , skinny as possible. but i used to carry the board to the spot. and if you do that, than you need maneuvers, and i don’t have those.

My tre flips are trash but small wheels help . I also like to feel closer to the ledge or coping.  Spitfire formula four classic for life

If I'm on a mission to learn basic slappys would bigger or smaller wheels be optimal to make it easier?  I got some 50mm on my regular board but some closer to 60mm on my cruiser which I was planning to use later tonight

I think bigger is better. Easier to roll on the curb and better lock in. With smaller wheels you might slip over more easily. Wheel shape also makes a big difference. Conicals lock in better but will take more force to get in. Tablets even more so. Classics go nicely on the curb but it’s easier to slip over. Whatever you do, don’t go slapping with soft wheels. It’s doable but it just not a good time IMO.

my all time favorite wheel is the 58mm 99a f4 classic, but they have been extremely hard to find lately, so i'm on 56mm radials rn. i don't go under 56mm because i can't afford it, i skate my wheels until they're like 48s, with 58s it takes me about a year to get to that point. i prefer the classics because they look alright when they wear down since they're round. i used to skate conical fulls in 54 for a few years but they look ugly as fuck when small, i rode like 5 sets of them until they were about 45mm, looked like shit. the classics still look ok at that point.
I'm ok with theft. It happens to me all the time.
I steal too

These truck and wheel polls should make it possible to have at least 2 votes. Who on slap is sane enough to have only one setup?
53 mm on my "main" street setup. But 57 mm on my transition board that just turned into my main because I love it so much and skate miniramp all week

The funny thing is more than a few people I know have issue with odd number sized wheels, so they will ride 52, 54, 56, 58 or 60 only, never 51, 53, 55, 57, 59 etc.  Just another one of those "interesting" facts that make no sense to some people, but make absolute sense to others.

I'm the other way around, I prefer odd numbers over even numbers in wheel size. 55mm has been my drug of choice, now thinking about switching down to 53mm as I'm skating more flatground/curbs these days.

Spitfire F4 Conical 52mm. I tried 54 conical full, but they felt sluggish and heavy to me. The 52 conical have a nice riding surface while still remaining light.
