i’ll be the first to say it…

why the fuck are people having kids when the world if getting gnarlier and gnarlier every day.

-climate change posing an existential threat to humanity
-worsening economy
-potential coming war with china
-peak oil may have already been passed
-increasing famines worldwide
-an incredibly volatile housing market
-AI on the brink of automizing jobs

the number of problems in the world is increasing exponentially. do they not realize the implications of bringing a child into a world where one’s wellbeing isn’t guaranteed??

Ones well-being never was guaranteed, boss. The future may not be as stable or prosperous as the past, but that doesn’t mean life’s not worth living.

think about how many countries have collapsed in the past couple years and how the number of problems in the world is increasing exponentially. do they not realize the implications of bringing a child into a world where one’s wellbeing isn’t guaranteed??

I often think this about my intelligent friend’s procreating, and the hardships their children will likely face… then I realize it’s not my problem, and none of us asked to be born.

Cosmically life is unimportant, life on earth is unimportant. None of it matters, and existence is ultimately chaotic suffering.

So yeah, tomorrow is Monday and thus begins a brand new week.
Do you get deja vu, huh?

hello, newbie here. I just wanted to say. Tin foil hat much looser please. And there were always problems in the world. Think of how people felt during peak Cold War, ww2, sinner running le in to the ground etc. but there’s solutions to problems. Poppa was low too at one point but he’s moving on. Good on him

A really “cool” dad was skating my local skatepark with his toddler standing between his legs, carving around, he hit a rock, fell on the kid, and snapped his femur… nice one dad.

die-hard pops fan but holding a baby while skating makes me want to call cps on you, one stoprock and that kid is gonna be medically fried for the rest of their life

I met Anthony on an acting job he was the transport guy bussing the production assistants and crew around. He was leaving a bathroom I was waiting to get into, I said ‘Anthony Papalardo?’ Because the last time he was seen was seemingly smoking crack in the supreme cherry video I was genuinely concerned and he looked me in the eyes and replied ‘it depends whose asking’ hahahaha I was like woah who let the Fonzie on set lol

This is like 30% solid points, 70% scared to live type shit.

I feel like people on average had way more kids during more tense geopolitical situations. Wars suck, but the globalization of today’s economy and the connectivity of your average “developed nation” citizen almost guarantees that we’ll never see anything as gnarly as the World Wars, unless niggas start using Gundams or some shit. Much harder to use nationalism to recruit soldiers (and good luck trying to shame dudes out of draft dodging) and way more corporate influence on political powers than ever before. If Nazi party was prominent today Volkswagen and BMW would be telling Hitler how to operate, not the other way around.

Domestically you have some points, but it all comes down to the ridiculous costs of living, increased uselessness of the American labor force, and more prominent classism…especially in larger cities. Economic problems are fixable though, and a reevaluation of capitalism within the next 15 years is an eventuality at this point. No reason to not have children imo.

well first of all - I'm happy to hear that Pops is having a job.

But did he seemingly smoke crack in cherry? I don't remember this at all, and I'm a huge fan of Pops, so I'm kinda impressed if my brain decided to ignore this!

Lol...this is Slap in a nutshell. There's been much worse times to bring children into the world and a lot more uncertainty...you honestly sound like an idiot and should read a little bit of history dating back more than the last 50 years.

The other dude who said "he'd call the cops" on Pops for holding his baby while riding his board...guaranteed hypocrite Karen who talks shit about police when its trendy.

I'm happy for Pops and Gino hopefully the kids bring them joy and fulfillment.

But won't the world be flooded in the next 20 years due to climate change? How can both the water supply run short and the world flood? you need to turn off npr and get your bullshit straight if you expect anyone to take your nonsense  seriously.

This is such a myopic and short sighted view. Unfortunately its very trendy these days. There has never been a more prosperous, less violent, or healthier time to be alive in the history of the world. That is objectively true. Are there serious problems on the horizon? Of course, this isn’t to minimize them. But you have to be terribly ill-informed to be a such a doomsdayer.

I have two little kids and what scares me the most is actually this toxic pessimism that seems to be contagious. Life is good, it has gotten progressively better by nearly every measure for hundreds of years, and there are substantial reasons (as much as ever) to want to share the experience and pass it on, and keep working to make it even better.

edit: deleted paragraphs worth of shit I didn’t actually want to argue about in hindsight.

Surely you understand the difference between salt and fresh water.... Right? I think you need to turn whatever the fuck you're listening to off and start attending 3rd grade science class before you develop an opinion on this topic.
