There is an excellent episode in 'Ripper Street' season 2 which features Merrick as a supporting character. It makes me cry, too—he had such a tender soul.

The Paddington movies are so damn good, something both kids and adults can thoroughly enjoy. And it's an excellent example of great script writing, casting, pacing, building emotional stakes, setup / payoff and having character arcs.

They seriously are. After the whole Rotten Tomatoes thing happened a part of me thought maybe people were hamming it up a bit. But it’s legitimately just really nice and well done. Certain parts hit close to home, and I like the feeling of being moved by something so earnest and not cyclical.

I’ll have to check that out. I think that movie was the first time I realized that people can suck really bad (the people being mean to him I mean)

I didn't cry but these two films are fucking emotionally devastating:

For anyone who suffered through extreme depression or had a loved one go through extreme depression Melancholia is the best representation of the whole experience. I didn't understand it when I first saw it in the theatre (ironically enough it was the first movie I saw with my ex who suffered from bipolar depression), but I understand it now. Severe depression destroys the person suffering and everyone around them:

Dude that movie is so fucked.  Actually all of that that guy’s movies are.  Antichrist fucked me up for like a week after I first watched it.

I love all the different reactions people had to the news the planet was doomed: Jack Bauer immediately bitches out while Kirsten Dunst’s depression evaporates and she seems to be in a state of bliss.

I saw Anti christ around the time it came out, still haven't recovered from it.

That very scene made the wife and I decide to watch the Paddington movies. Went on a marmalade bender for a few weeks afterwards too.

Blade Runner: Director's Cut - when Rachel learns her memories are implants, and when Zhora gets shot among the neon and windows. I don't know why I empathize with the Replicants so much

Silver Linings Playbook - when Robert de Niro's character starts crying about how he hasn't been a better father

The end of Paris, Texas did

The end of The Florida Project

A lot of 'em do

Lol same reason for me after seeing that movie. Genius marketing. Don't even think they're from the same production companies though which is kind of funny. Anyway, my kids loved it and I enjoyed it too. Marmelade is also good as fuck.

I pretty much cry during any schmaltzy movie these days though. Doesn't take much.

WHL. I was at the Lawrence Farm. Fed dorm two.

I shed one singular tear and said skating is over. My dorm was dead silent and everyone held their breath. Then we sent Moe on a walkaway to the package store.
The next day he had to be held up at first count. The homie Secret Indictment stood on one side and I on the other and Officer Howl barely looked at us.

We had one hour to get him back to normal before next count.

The first time I remember crying at the TV i was watching The Hulk. (1980)
My mom told me I watched it every day. I loved the hulk. She said the hulk was saving a baby in one episode. As he was picking the baby up I lost my shit screaming no! He's gonna hurt the baby!

I was two years old. It's funny to think in 3 years I'd be riding a banana board around saying I wanted to be a rock star when I grew up. 3 years after that I thought I was Jimmy Gestapo Jr
Plz stop killing each other

I remember crying from fear during a screening of that Disney movie upon which the Splash Mountain ride is based (can't remember the name, maybe "Song of the South"? Anyways, it's racist af). There was a scene where a boy is trapped in a pen with a charging bull and I cried so hard, scared, that my father had to leave the theater with me.

First memory crying from sadness during a film is, like others, "The Neverending Story" which we watched during a slumber party at the YMCA.

I remember seeing Clint Eastwood's "A Perfect World" in theaters and crying during the ending when Kevin Costner's character is killed.
"Was just about to say, wtf is up with this EdLawndale guy?"

Marley and me

That's the hardest I ever cried watching a movie. Didn't even like it much, but I'm such a sucker for dogs they got me real bad with that one.

Everytime.

Yup. I'll add the farewell at the Gray Havens at the end. I always completely lose it when Frodo says goodbye.

Neverending story. They didn’t have to let the swamp eat you know what/who. The nothing is a cold mofo.

Fuuuck, that's a tough one too.

Shawshank Redemption

Brooks was here. If that doesn't get you, I don't know what will.

I couldn't possibly list all the movies that made me cry. It's a good way to relase pent up emotions imo.

To add a new one: Da 5 Bloods was probably the fastest for me. Didn't even make it through the intro. That one was pure despair though.

I remember hearing someone talk about why we cry at happy endings in movies… I think it was an episode of Radiolab.  Anyways, they said it’s because we subconsciously realize that we will likely never have such happiness in our own lives as the characters in the movie.  We are crying for ourselves.  :'(
When nothing in society deserves respect, we should fashion for ourselves in solitude new silent loyalties.
