I'm trying to dig deeper into Herbie Hancock! I absolutely love Watermelon Man, but I'd love to know what other tracks/ albums I should check out. If anyone can give me some recommendos I'd appreciate it!

Headhunters (the album watermelon man is on) is absolutely phenomenal. One of my favorite albums ever. Definitely hear the whole thing if you haven't. After that I'd say go with sextant if you want to hear more of him playing synths. If you want acoustic piano go with empyrean isles. Have fun, Herbie's awesome!

His entire “Mwandishi” era is so banging, really all these records hit front to back:

Mwandishi
Crossings
Sextant
Headhunters

And the live record July 21st ‘71 in Nice, France from this time period smokes too.

Just copped Man-child the other day actually which is still the tail end of the Headhunter era (think there’s two or three records between this and headhunters but I don’t own them) and while it’s good, he really breaks out during Mwandishi era, experiments, and it’s very, very rad.

In addition to what people have mentioned already, I'll recommend the album Thrust if you want a similar vibe to Sextant or Head Hunters. And definitely check out stuff from the 60s on Blue Note like Maiden Voyage.

"Nobu" is also a favorite cut. That sequenced synth line with the Fender Rhodes is some future shit...

And I have to share one of my all-time favorite videos, Herbie in the studio with Quincy messing with a Fairlight CMI...
