All I can say is that I started landing a bunch more tricks and diversifying my spots when I switched up to 8.25 from 7.75 back int he day and I will never go back. Also visually, footage of me on anythiing below an 8.25 just looks goofy (size 10.5 shoe). I get we were all ok with seeing it back in the day but HD cameras kinda made that clown shoe look more apparent these days.

I've never once in my whole life watched a video and noticed or thought "this guy's feet are too big for his board", and I've never heard anyone say it outside of SLAP forums or gifted hater videos. That's a very niche level of scrutiny.
And I can't think of any situation where adding .25" to my deck would be the difference between skating a spot or not.

You weren't around during the time of 7.5" decks then. I cared very little for equipment nerdy as a teen but my size 12 feet looked ridiculous on those boards and it was noticeable in videos with pros. I firmly believe the having the right size board can make a person's skateboarding look more appealing.

That'd be dope if there was just some more enthousiasm about 8.125.I have hard times getting some.
Under 8 is too narrow I think I hated those in the 90's.

I wonder what the ideal ratio of board width to shoe size or wheel base to height should be.

I never left the 7.825/7.8625 camp. I remember when 8s became the cool thing and I felt like I was swimming on my board.

From what I understand wheel base is a shoulder width thing. Anecdotal, but I switched to a sub 14 wheelbase from like 14.25 - 14.5 depending on the board and my skating got cleaner and more consistent with less effort. I'm a wheel base convert. Average sized women and undersized men should really consider it. It seems to make a big difference with balance as well.

I just picked up a Real deck. They're doing some smaller shapes that I think are interesting. Their site currently shows a "True Fit" and "True Mid" size/shape running on the smaller end. The 7.5" and 7.75" are too small for me but the length and wheelbase should be correct for the size.

They have the 8.25 with a 13.88" WB and 31" length that I'm enjoying right now though a little small than what I'm used to. I think I'd like to try the Nicole Hause Hammerthrow deck next. That looks like a great shape at 8.28" / 31.7" / 14.12".

Sour has some smaller shapes that I liked. It was hard to get used to but at the end I strangely could switch ollie and switch flip the big skinny parking cone. I haven't been able since. Lost a lot of other tricks though.

And my friend has a James Sayres Traffic at 7.75 that was fun.

Ok

let's get the Termites back then for those who like it small.
Do anyone remember those decks for kids in the 90's 2000's?

Word.  I wear 12s and going up to 8.75 from 8.5 felt so much better.

Genuine questions, what kind of skating do you do?
More street or transition?
Do you do many flip tricks?

In all seriousness I can see Powell issuing a && mini deck to cater to his fanbase.

I try to do a little bit of everything, but I don’t touch pools and I definitely lean towards street.  Ledges, manuals, flat, etc.  My bag of flip tricks is pretty small, but I don’t find them easier on 8.5 than 8.75.  More to flip but also more to land on.  With that said I’m just getting really “back into” skating again and it’s entirely possible I’ll size back down once I’m more comfortable.

what size shoes do you wear? I see dudes with big feet, size 12-13, on sub 8.5 and it looks like a tooth pick. I'm size 11 and an 8 feels pretty tiny.
Well-defined ambiguity, I'm already on somebody's list as a casualty

It never went anywhere. Some core companies still produce smaller boards. Real, toy machine, thank you, almost, to name a few. Really it's dependent on the truck companies. The smallest option for most brands are 7.6".
I got a size 9 shoe and anything bigger than 8.25 feels like a boat. I'm skating an 8.25" with 8" thunders right now. I switched to the bigger truck from a 7.6" thunder. I would always miss feebles and krooks on the smaller truck. but my flip tricks felt amazing. I switched to the bigger truck and I don't think i've missed a krook or feeble. But my flip tricks feel slower and shittier. I might try and skate an 8" for my next board.
We rode 7.5's" and didn't complain.

8" board on 8.25" trucks is a really fun set up. You get the stability of an 8.25 and the flippyness of an 8.
