I noticed fake vig on that Etnies x Independent video, it's gross.
That was me. Sadly, it was born of necessity rather than any sort of creative decision.
That video was the first time I was using that camera.
The overlay is to cover up the vig shake on some of the lines which you can see in the raw. The rail system helps tons, but you have to have it setup so well to stop shakes. I'm going to look into other ways I can support this properly...
There is also some crop on one of the lines, too because it wasn't quite filmed right...so the overlay kept it uniform which is why it was used there.
The setup is good. I'm into it but need to spend more time with it.
My takeaways from using it are:
- The fisheye feels good. Results feel close to the xtreme but personally, I still prefer the 8-15 distortion.
- The audio sucks. Will be using a mic from here on in.
- You have to be careful in low light. It doesn't handle shadows too well. I've not tried shooting at night, but I do think it needs an on cam light as early as the VX does
